With all the awards the NBA hands out at the end of the season: MVP, Defensive Player, Coach, NBA Team, Sixth Man, etc... one award that is commonly overlooked is the Most Improved Player award... and I think our own Bobby Sura is a good candidate to win it this season... averaging career highs in rebounds, assists, and steals (but more importantly, being an important factor/energy spark/heart of a winning team). What do yall think? And if you disagree, who in the NBA has shown enough improvement this year to win the award?
I'd have to agree, with his bad knee and age I'm shocked that its turning out to be his best season and the most productive. He's even getting all kinds phraises from the media, even from ESPN. He makes big shots when it counted most along with his hustle, fire and determination.
I agree with you, but I think Grant Hill will get most votes nationally. Although, I'm not sure how you can win "most improved" when you didn't even play last year. Or is the award named "comeback player of the year?" Not sure.
Sura won't get it. He had a very good statistical 1/2 season with the Hawks last year. So you can't find any improvement just by stats. I don't even think Sura would make it over someone like Gilbert Arenas, who is having just an unbelievable year after a injury-riddled past season.
Yeah, I'd have to agree with moligity on this one. Media darling Grant Hill's pretty much got this one locked up in the bag.
Drew Gooden Joe Johnson Amare Stoudamire Chris Mihm Damon Jones Vince Carter ... Darius Miles Carmelo Anthony Mo Taylor Latrell Sprewell
Grant would win "comeback player" if the award was still given. He doesn't qualify as most improved. I personally am hoping that Yao wins "most improved player". If he steps up his game to the point that everyone including the ESPN talking heads are talking up his game then the Rox may be on the verge of winning the whole banana.
Amare... Most improved by Nash... Wade.. Most improved by Shaq.. That leaves... Carlos Boozer???? Theyll probably give it to Lebron if he doesnt get MVP as well.
Obviously NO. If he can improve his 2 consecutive triple double last season to 20 after all star, yes
Bobby Sura had a great year last year also. Check out his stats in the second half of the 03-04 season. Anyone who plays fantasy basketball knows about his near triple double average during that period
Is there a Comeback Player of the Year Award as well as the Most Improved Player? That's the only way Grant Hill may not get Most Improved Player.
If Sura keeps this up, where he rebounds like Rodman, passes like Magic Johnson, and scores like he's...uh...well...uh...a decent scorer.. and they keep the streak alive and beat all the good teams in March.. then yeah.. he should get it.
Sura's play has been tremendous but I don't think that Sura is gonna win it..it's going to be a more marketable player..someone with big stats
