After Dave Campo gets fired, hasn't he got to be number one on Jerry Jones' speed dial? I don't like Stoops or the Cowboys, but to you cowboy fans out there, are people already speculating about this? It just seems like a match made in heaven, or hell, depending on your perspective.
One thing, Stoops is not leaving OU to be Jerry's b****. If JJ relieves himself of the title of president and general manager, and returns to being just the owner, then Stoops will talk. Just like Spurrier and Davis have total control over personnel, Stoops will demand it as well plus a huge salary. If Jerry wants to win badly enough, he will hire Stoops.
JJ should just name himself as head coach. In the end, that is what he wants. His ego couldn't handle the other JJ, so he keeps bringing in coaches with no balls so he can run the show. He was successful early with Johnson's players, but look at dem 'boys now. Suck.
Stoops is not a puppet. If Campo is gone (don't know why, he's cheap), expect a Gailey/CAmpo type hire.
He turned down these jobs: Ohio State- he's from Ohio Florida- loved it there Cleveland Browns Notre Dame Now do you REALLY think he would go to the Cowboys? If he's going anywhere, it would have been Florida......
Just to clarify: Ohio State did not offer Bob Stoops their head coaching position. They asked him to interview for it, and he said "no thanks". Splitting hairs, but it's not quite the same thing. Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Florida are lateral moves from Oklahoma. The Dallas Cowboys aren't. I doubt he'd be interested for at least another dozen years or so, but if he were going to take any job, that would seem to be one of the few that would be a legitimate step up from OU.
I doubt money is the issue....he's the highest paid coach in college...and if it was, I'm sure he would've left by now BTW, Bob is not the only reason for his success....without Mike Stoops, Brent Venables and Chuck Long this team would be not near as good.
The cowboys problem IS Jones. Until he is willing to take a lesser role, no self respecting coach worth anything is going to take the job.
Of course not. But, do realize that Jerry Jones and a handful of college programs would/could offer Stoops alot more money than OU can. Simple facts of economics. I thought Stoopsie soured on the UF job when he found out they were speaking to Shanahan.
Yes, I REALLY think so. Being head coach of the Dallas Cowboys is more high profile than any of those places, and will pay more too. If being head coach of Florida is so great, why did Spurrier jump to the NFL?
Stoops didn't take the Florida job because he didn't want to be the coach who followed Spurrier. Look at poor Ron Zook now. Stoops is very happy at OU. Plus he's Mack's Daddy.
Spurrier got bored and wanted to see if his system would work in the nfl. Florida is almost about as good as it gets in college.
or maybe he saw the handwriting on the wall: that ou would be much better than Fl this year....maybe stoops will get bored of beating up on texas.
nah, that never will get boring...... Yes, The Cowboys is a great job, but with all the connections Stoops has, and having a chance for those jobs(Cleveland, OSU, Florida, etc.), I wouldn't label it THAT much better......and yes, this is coming from a cowboy fan
If Jerry Jones were not the owner, the Dallas Cowboys job would be the most prestigous job in all of sports, well maybe not manager of the Yankees. Notre Dame is the most prestigous college job, imo. ou is in the top ten. FYI, Barry Switzer himself said UT was the best college job you can get. You're a Cowboy fan, but you also seem to have a couple of strikes against anything from Texas. Thus, I think you underestimate the prestige of the position. It's as good as it gets in sports.
That would be like the ultimate f-you to mack brown. To beat him up and then come in and upstage him in his own state. I wouldn't put it past stoopsy.
You're a Cowboy fan, but you also seem to have a couple of strikes against anything from Texas No, I just hate the University of Texas, not the state. Does this mean I don't like the Rockets either?
