I met him years ago when we lived in the Renoir. Always saw him in the elevator and we became friends. The guy is genuine, great dinner guest with all of his stories, and his charitable work with Sunshine Kids with Biggio and the special Olympics puts him above so many others. Really gonna miss his newscasts but proud I'm a friend. God bless Bob, 39 years...still plenty off time to do more good in the Houston community. You have touched many lives, thank you.
Man sad news on both ends, i enjoyed channel 13 growing up. Wayne Dolcefino is another really good guy ive met several times and is just great to talk too.
Man, Bob Allen is a sports legend. I didn't care for his sports anchoring on Channel 13 News because half the time it seemed like he didn't know where the camera was, but he seemed like a nice guy. I grew up watching Dave Ward, Bob Allen, Marvin Zindler, and Ed Brandon. I heard Dave Ward injured himself not too long ago. He's got to be getting way up there. Also, sad news about Doug Brown. I remember him, too.
Hard to believe bob Allen is old. I remember him covering a traffic story during Allison. Dude was so out place.
Crazy how long hes been on the air. He will be missed. Wish him the best of luck with whatever he does next
He's not retiring, he's just leaving Channel 13 as he's done with that medium. He said he wants to pursue other opportunities.
Man, the news about Brown, Allen retiring. Brandon was on and I hadn't seen him on air in a long time. Ch 13 making me feel real old.
The same year as... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/RLZQ3OLEJWE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Bob Allen joins Channel 11 Less than three months after departing his job as Houston’s longest-tenured sports anchor, Bob Allen is headed back on the air – at KHOU (Channel 11). Allen’s appointment was unveiled Thursday afternoon on the station’s website. He fills the vacancy created by the unexpected departure of Butch Alsandor, who resigned in late February. His first day on the air will be April 25, the start of the Nielsen sweeps period for May. Allen left KTRK (Channel 13) in mid-January after 38 ½ years at the ABC-owned station but said he wasn’t retiring at age 66 and was looking toward a new opportunity in broadcasting or media. He’s found it, in a move that is startling but not necessarily shocking in the context of Houston’s TV history.
Out of Houston for a decade, but curious about mulatto flattop's resignation. The last of the trinity: Nielsen, Roberts and Allen, still stands.
So who's gonna do the Inside the Texans Huddle shows on Sunday night with Spencer Tillman? Tim Melton? I enjoyed the repoire between Tillman and Allen. And that's crazy that Allen jumped ship to KHOU......
I ran into Bob Allen at the Denver airport during a layover once, we had time to chat just a bit and he was genuinely friendly. Not surprised. I remember watching him doing "Dialing for Dollars" as far back as 1971 or so. I know he must look older, but to me he has always looked exactly the same.
