I don’t think the admins here should go out of their way to support embeds from the new social media platform that comes along, when the user base is still relatively small. If a Rockets fan community springs up on it, it makes sense to do so. Not a BlueSky user so I have no idea what kind of Rockets/NBA/sports discussion it might have. I’ll just say, judging by the quality of the Twitter posts I routinely see on here, the bar is already very low. I’m kind of curious how different the BlueSky posts might be (just not curious enough to go get myself an account on there).
I think we pretty much see eye to eye on that, if that platform had something uniquely valuable, I could see doing it...despite the small fringe nature of the platform. I just haven't heard any evidence suggesting that would be the case. Just to put some numbers with the claim that Bluesky is a small fringe platform, the latest numbers suggest that as of January 13, 2025, Bluesky has 27.3 million registered users and between 1–10 million daily active users worldwide Twitter/X allegedly has somewhere around 250 million daily active users and around twice as many monthly active users. I'm still skeptical about how accurate those numbers are for either platform, but I think the disparity between the two platforms is about accurate.
People are leaving X to BlueSky. I am guessing that the people leaving think that Mush has made X/Twitter a real **** show. Other people are cross posting to X, Blue Sky, Threads et al, as their social media strategy. Some of the creators that I follow on YouTube and that are not political have left X, mainly since they do not enjoy using the X platform  BTW FaceBook user base makes X look fringe, if that this is really a determining factor. Anyway @Clutch should do whatever he wants or thinks best. This is his decision to make.
Facebook/Instagram are used differently, so they aren't direct competitors If you take all of the direct competitors and add them together, we're still not talking about even 10% of Twitter/X. So while you have a definitely true anecdote, it doesn't really match what the numbers say. There was a large group of those on the far left that were triggered by losing a presidential election so they rage quit Twitter. Some joined them, either due to seeking an ideological echo chamber as a "safe space" or due to Twitter's crackdown on underage sexual content, but the accounts that matter stayed because they weren't willing to sacrifice their income to join in a political temper tantrum. So not only are we talking about an insignificant number of people, were talking about insignificant content as well.... at least when looking at those who don't also post the same **** on the platform where everyone is, that is already able to be embedded. That's why I suggest making every fringe social media startup able to be embedded is a waste of time and a nonissue.
pretty sure you've just described shitter/X. yes, there are seggsy babes on the platform. however, you need to enable explicit content to view.
Pre-Elon Twitter was well known for their problems with child sexual content that they refused to do anything about....after Elon took over, they shut that down, which is why they fled to Bluesky along with the kinds of people who support that sort of thing. There aren't that many who are active there, so those kinds of people make up a decent percentage of active Blueshy users.
Tangentially related, but I guess some subreddits (including sports ones like NFL, Hockey, NBA, Baseball, and others like r/military and some city/country subreddits) are discussing banning Twitter (sorry X) or already have banned it. Article from earlier today about it: https://mashable.com/article/sports-subreddits-push-to-ban-x-links-after-elon-musk-salute A major gaming forum I follow is discussing it, but it would be a PITA for multiple reasons, so unclear if it will happen even if the majority want it done (which seems to be the case). I suppose if this trend takes off, then perhaps Bluesky or something else would see its numbers increase, especially relating to sports content...which is probably relevant here. I do personally prefer Bluesky over Twitter (even if it has its own echo chamber), but I also don't really care if embed support is enabled anytime soon or ever. Honestly not really a fan of any of these social media platforms...hence why I'm posting here and not there.
I don't know what you cavedwellers are doing, but we're elsewhere talking about The Band, and good music, and fun things https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/music-what-are-you-listening-to.130363/page-1067#post-15564363
This should not be a political topic, but confined to deciding whether a critical mass of basketball sources and followers has been reached and whether there will be unique content on BlueSky. I think both those things have happened and would like the ability to drop some BlueSky posts into threads on occasion. Currently, over 600 writers are putting #NBASky on their BlueSky posts. If you are on BlueSky, here's one of several NBA Starter Packs (this one includes Momster): https://bsky.app/starter-pack/mikevorkunov.bsky.social/3lah53b2rvu2a
Oh really? Lol. I think I know why Bobby was banned from the D&D (Granville), but I didn't know he actually was banned from that subforum. Good.
