http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bk/bkn/945251 Heart and Soul....whatever. They won all the individual awards, but lacked a team effort. Too much I(verson), not enough team scoring options. They got by in the east, but couldn't handle the Lakers. The Sixers are being made out to be these overachieving dogooders, but in my view they are the bullies from a weak conference that got beat down by a bigger bully. Their PR department has been working overtime. Or it could be that I have a deep resentment of Iverson from his rookie year. ------------------
that was funny. When I first clicked on this it was a post by red talking about Calvin sucking. It happened to come up really quickly (i.e. cache) so I clicked f5. Now it's about Blinebury sucking. ------------------ When this guy started smoking 40 years ago, people had no idea it was bad for you. People had to guess based on the hacking cough, shortness of breath, and bloody phlegm girl you looks good won't you mock that draft up?!
Hilarious. I just started a thread praising that article. ------------------ Protrolls.com! RITQAIOCLHTPFOTFWBPTD
What the beaten, battered, broken, bloodied 76ers demonstrated over the course of a sparkling regular season and an amazing seven-week run through the playoffs is that nothing works like hard work, and nothing succeeds like expecting and accepting nothing less than success. - Fran Blinebury. The only thing the 76ers demonstrated was how weak the East is. The last time I checked the Rockets were just as dominant over the East as the 76ers. Anyone want to debate that? ------------------
Yeah most definitely, the Rockets played just as well if not better against the east. Philly, if i remember correctly, did have a winning record which leads me to believe there is a bit more consistency there, but that depends on much more then the numbers may be able to tell us What should be seen is that Philly played with heart, where at times the Rockets seemed, if only in part, too passive. where would the rockets be if we had a roster full of hardworkers? Somebody mentioned that Philly was not a team, it was a group of individual award winners that had no "team" Working as a team requires a players, a game plan, and execution. We have the players, we have a game plan, ... wheres our execution? we have no set system, when you bicker over who gets touches over the course of a season the team doesnt get time to gel. The mighty lakers had difficulties when execution of the game plan was not in effect. I agree Blinebury Easily over looks some facts when making assumptions, but as for rockets adopting hard work, and the rockets adopting a game plan and executing it, hes right on the money. ------------------ President of MY fan club.
Right on crash. I like what Binebury tried to convey, but he failed in doing so. We've already proven we can win games on sheer talent and individual play(ie one-on-one basketball). Now we've got to prove we can get to the next level by playing as a team. Giving Francis free reign to do as he pleases on the court will not give Houston a winner, but more likely a one man show that any team with a legitimate defense could easily shut down on any given night by simply double and triple teaming Francis. We need a more team oriented offense where everyone on the court is actively involved. ------------------ burp
I'm in agreement with Fran B. (and that's not something I have ever put in writing before)!! One of the great hallmarks of Rudy's championship teams was of course, defense. Alas, that included a Dream in his prime patrolling and controlling the post, much as Dikembe did for Philly. Last year's defense of our much loved Rockets was sporadic at best. That was at least in part due to our center by committee, which was chaired in absentia by either Dream or Cato until late January... Still, even with a weak 5, and perhaps even more so, because of a weak 5, perimeter defense must by necessity become stronger. Stevie and Cat have GOT to get better at stopping the opposition from putting up numbers that match there own. Of course the need to improve on D is not limited by any means to our two stars, but if they are going to lead, let them lead by example on that end of the floor. That's where respect is earned in the NBA!!! ------------------ Our purpose in life is to find our gift, and the meaning of life is to give it away! I am not commenting on the article as a whole but there is a section of it that I am in total agreement with. "If skinny little Allen Iverson can be the lead horse, there is no reason Francis cannot follow suit. He is taller, stronger, quicker, a greater overall talent. What Francis needs is for coach Rudy Tomjanovich to take the reins off his own Secretariat and let him run free. The Rockets should be Francis' team, not just in name, but in every-night action. Only then will the rest of the group follow. Francis must be permitted to stop worrying about whom he might be offending. Anybody who can't keep up should move over, get left behind or be run down by the express train. " It should be no doubt that we should have a better supporting cast than Allen had so it will not end up being a one man show. No one would call the 76ers a one man show if Cat was on there and Norris and Taylor, an so on. ------------------
I love Francis, but no way he's quicker than Iverson. ------------------ Lisa, I'd like to buy your rock...
