I don't know about any of you but I cannot stand how negative this guy is about the Rockets. I rarely ever see a good positive article about this young team.

"Playoff teams do not handle the ball as if it were a greased pig at a summer picnic, committing 18 turnovers in the first half alone and a season-high 23 in the game."

This is one game...not a whole season. One game has very little impact on the big picture. Sure, we'd won 4 in a row...but what did he expect, for us to win out the rest of the year. It was one bad game in which the Rockets weren't ready to play and the Magic were.

I do agree however with the way he is talking about the players pointing out games later on that they should win, but what happens if they lose those? That gets them in a deep whole. What the players need to do is circle every game on the schedule, knowing they have the ability to beat anyone in the league on any given night.

    Thoughts?

I hate Blinebury with a passion. It's almost a given that ol' Fran will write a negative article about the Rockets after a loss like this. I think I have only seen 2 positive articles written about the rockets this year by him, one about Steve Francis becoming a leader and the second after their win at Seattle. I know he hated to write that Seattke article, because he couldn't use as many of his dumbass metaphors. He has to be the most bombastic sports writer I have ever seen.

The job of an opinion columnist is to write opinions. He's not supposed to write wishy-washy columns. He's not supposed to put "I think" or "Most likely" before every statement -- it's presumed the reader will understand that it's an opinion. His job is to write columns that illicit responses (which generally indicates interest), good or bad. Based on the response here, it looks like he's doing a pretty good job.

He's not a moron. He just has a different opinion than you or me.

Hmmm... This was his first Rockets article since Feb 10th. That article was a positive one:

    http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/blinebury/819470

His previous column, Feb 6th, was also positive:

    http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/blinebury/815713

Same with the one right before that on Feb 4th:

    http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/blinebury/814325

Are you sure you're actually reading his columns? [IMG]

He may be an ass, but he is on the money as far as the playoffs go.

This team is far to unstable to make the playoffs. They play TERRIBLE defense, and do not know how to play in crunch time. They are at least a year OR MORE away from the playoffs.

Playoff teams DO NOT lose to the Clippers and Golden State...AT HOME, PERIOD !!!

Phoenix did. [IMG] For any team, you could pick out numerous upsets in any given season. Pointing out two games does not make any trend for a season. I could also say lottery teams don't beat Miami, NYK, and Philli on the road. Again, individual games mean very little in an 82 game season.

When the rockets played the warriors they didnt have Francis or Mobley, and as for the Clippers, they have also embarassed other teams on their home floors like the Suns.Shanna, I understand the fact that he's an opinion columinst, but the thing I dont like about him, is he makes stupid comments and most of the time they have nothing to do with the play on the court. I'll say it again, he is one of the most BOMBASTIC sports writers I've seen.Actually,he is a moron, because he writes about a sport that he has no ties or experience with. Also, their is a very small percentage of people who agree with him. He surmises what's wrong with the rockets, as opposed to looking at the stats or watching the play on the court.

Go cover the Astros Blineberry. Theres still 30 games of basketball left to play. Do you think your going to spoil the fun with late-night metaphors cooked up in hotel lobbys? Get the Hell away from the Rockets! You stink, your a snake, your slimy, like Pippens skin lotion. Go cover the Astros b****. Better yet, go finish your Gothic Novel. Oh yeah and take your interns, ZRB n' Dadakota with you.

Actually the more that I think about the Clipper loss the less I see it as an upset. The Clippers are, believe it or not, on the rise. If they can hold on to Odom, they might have the best future ahead of them than any other team. If I'm not mistaken didn't they beat the Lakers...seems like I heard that somewhere. I just read the ESPNMag article about them today and the whole team is revolving around Odom...they may be young and inexpierienced, but they are a dangerous team.

Sorry this was a bit off topic [IMG]

Hey, I do NOT want to go with that GIT! I, for one, still still think that the Rockets have a chance. A slight chance. They are going to have to pick it up big time, just like they did last year towards the end of the season.

I'm not going to just give up on the playoffs like a lot of people are. There is to much time for things to happen. Yeah you have to jump over some teams, but those teams can also hit cold spots as well. If Houston can play like they did during that 4 games winning streak they can get in.

This team is so hot-and-cold, when we played the Clippers without Francis in the first half, it was just too much for our young boneheads to overcome.

We can leapfrog Denver and Seattle. Actually, I think we will. Catching Phoenix is more of a chore, but can be done. Five games is a lot, but Phoenix has to turn it up as well: lotsa distractions there; and the Suns team has been basically .500 since the first eight games.

I'll have to agree with him.

Thinking of the playoffs right now is premature.

Plus those 5 games seperating us from Phoenix are gonna be hard to overcome. Especially with two other teams still ahead of us.

Losses will be very critical from now on if we are to think of being a playoff team.

But he seems to be shooting down any possibility of making the playoffs. It may be premature to think about them right now, but it is also premature to eliminate the possibility of playoffs this year. If Dream continues to give us his presence inside, we should at least take it down to the last couple of games to see if we get in or not.

    Blinebury knows squat first off.

Second, what he says about our chances of making the playoffs means absolutely nothing. John Lopez wrote an entire column entitled "Kiss the Rockets Goodbye" right after the referendum failed in 1999. Oops!!!

Besides, everyone always jokes about Blinebury and his "Random Metaphor and Simile Generator." I've never cared for his columns but it seems like he and Dale Robertson will be writing them until they croak from abuse of the English language.

    But, that's just my opinion...

I do agree with you that shooting down any hope of reaching the playoffs is premature indeed. But you got to admit the Rockets have a long road ahead of them and they cannot afford any more performances like last night's.

Not only do they have Phoenix to catch up with, but Denver AND Seattle.

Cuttino says: "we weren't ready this time"

Well, then you ain't ready for the playoffs! Plyoff teams should be ready every night and not go into "calculating 'W's and '?'s".

Just like Rudy T. said, in the championship years they went into every game knowing that theyr'e supposed to win. Either start developing that mentality or prepare youself for Lottery 2001!

On a more positive note. They only had 4 turnovers in the second half & Dream had another great game against a young team that's playing pretty well right now. I'll take winning 4 out of 5 games anyday.
