    World Championships summary

    Yao dominates

    Yao Ming gave the Rockets reason reason to smile, using his considerable size advantage and an array of nifty inside moves to lift China past Algeria 96-82 on Friday night.

    A day after he was handcuffed early by personal fouls, Yao played free and easy, hitting 12 of 15 shots from the field for 38 points. He also grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked eight shots and dealt three assists against the Algerian team that had no player taller than 6-9.

    "It's so hard to make judgments about what you see here at a tournament like this, especially in the early-round games," said Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich. "You don't know what the coaches are trying to do or how to evaluate a lot of what you see.

    "The one thing I did like was the way for the first time, I saw the Chinese team try to milk a situation by getting the ball down low to Yao Ming and he didn't hesitate to make his moves."

    As China built a 20-point lead in the first half, Yao used three straight possessions to show off different ways of getting to the hoop. First he took a feed off a classic pick-and-roll to score and he also dipped his head and went up-and-under for a bucket, was fouled and made the free throw.

    But it was in between, when Yao grabbed a defensive rebound, then got out and ran the length of the floor on the fast break, got the ball back from Wei Lu and hammered down a dunk that had Tomjanovich cheering.

    "Those are the kinds of plays that you love to see from your big man," Tomjanovich said. "It shows he's into the game and willing to hustle."

    Why can I picture Rudy in a dark room by himself, looking at film of Ming in this tournament, and laughing insanely to himself?

    You mean to tell me that the China coach actually did something smart?

    NO, I DON'T BELIEVE IT!

    Nice to know Yao can do well when he has a mismatch. He will probably get a bunch of those when the season starts.

    YM will get a mismatch just about every damn time he steps on the court.

    Exactly. You can tell he has been second guessing the Chinese coach the whole time and he is trying to give him a game plan through the media. That is hilarious.

    No the real reason is that Anderson is a freaking strong Mother like Barkley without the playmaking and scoring abilities. He pushed Ming around because he pushes everyone around. Check em out.

    Exactly! Let me translate some of Rudy's cryptic comments:

    <i>"It's so hard to make judgments about what you see here at a tournament like this, especially in the early-round games,". . . "You don't know what the coaches are trying to do or how to evaluate a lot of what you see.
    </i>

    <b>Rudy's Translation:</b> I don't have a clue what the man is doing with the Chinese team. I try to rationalize the things he is doing in my head but I just realize it's just stupid coaching.

    <i>"The one thing I did like was the way for the first time, I saw the Chinese team try to milk a situation by getting the ball down low to Yao Ming and he didn't hesitate to make his moves."
    </i>

    <b>Rudy's Translation:</b> Hey genius, your best player is a <b>7-5</b> giant and the #1 pick in the NBA draft, how about GETTING HIM THE FREAKING BALL! In fact your second best player is a FREAKING 7-FOOT GIANT and on an NBA team! Pound the freaking ball into the paint and let them operate! It's not brain surgery!

    <i>"Those are the kinds of plays that you love to see from your big man," Tomjanovich said. "It shows he's into the game and willing to hustle."</i>

    <b>Rudy's Translation:</b> I can't believe the way Ming is playing despite playing for an idiot of a coach! I LOVE the way the guy is making plays despite having a coach that's NOT GETTING HIM THE FREAKING BALL, and being surrounded by scrubs. Those are the type of players I love!

    I think the Ben Wallace type (short and stout) players will give Yao the most trouble

    at 6'6, 6'7 they have a good deal of leverage on Ming, and he'll have even more trouble putting the ball on the floor against smaller players

    lucky for the Rockets his jumper is money

    I have a funny feeling that when it comes to Yao Ming it will be a roller coaster ride of a season.

    When I say that its not a bad thing, it happens to the best of rookies, but I think he will have his fair share of up and downs this year.
