With Adelman with the reigns - and a talent poor team surrounding Yao and T-mac, here's what you can expect next season:

    Negatives:

-Players will play less intensity on D, opposing teams will average 100+ ppg against us.
-In general - there will be a less disciplined bunch - taking more risks.
-Yao will get less shots and touches.
-T-mac will lose drive to win and revert back to a scorer on a mediocre team. T-mac assists will likely drop.
    -Less wins

    Positives:
-We will likely pass the ball more effectively and score more. Since we won't be expending so much energy on Defense....of course there's that flip side.
    -More exciting basketball
-Maybe the illusion that we're a contender simply by changing coaches will finally go away.
    -Better draft picks.

    What are you talking about?

Adelman is going to custom tailor the offense around Yao and McGrady. IF anything both players will now get much easier shots and Adelman will play to their strengths ie no more getting owned in the paint by Okur anymore for Yao. Rick will figure out where Yao is most effective like under 8ft from the basket and he will get the ball down the post with better entry passes and positioning. As for T-Mac he is going to get the screens off the ball like Peja used to do for spot up jumpers. Remember Adelman's offense places great emphasis on movement without the ball unlike JVG who had McGrady running the offense via isolation plays while all the other players just stood there. Battier will play the new Doug Christie role and the bench might play a deeper role.

You act like Adelman is going to wave his magic wand and all of a sudden Yao and Tmac are going to have an easy diet of easy shots and everyone all of a sudden are going to turn into scorers.

Sorry, but midnight already struck and we've seen what we are - a team that can't beat elite teams, but can beat up on the weak.

I don't automatically assume we will do worse, but I certainly don't assume we will be better. Honestly I expect it to be roughly the same. I think both coaches are experienced with good track records, yet neither has won a title. I think Jeff has done more with less than Adelman, considering the talent on Rick's trail blazers and kings in comparison to the knicks and rockets. In the end I expect the results to be about the same either way. The potential to be worse is probably more than the potential to be better given that TMac will have another year of wear on his bad back and only Yao can really be expected to show significant improvement out of our rotation players.

Is there any reason to think we haven't? They've already started negotiating a contract with him. They fired JVG. What other evidence do we need?

weren't this team a top 4 in point differential in the league despite a lot of injuries to major stars? I can't blame morey having a hard time letting go of JVG. He knows substance when he sees it. Yes we'll probably be among the top of the league in scoring if Adelman coach us but we'd probably give up points as much.

I get lost with the post.
This move with new coach will bring more wins.

I'd only be down with adleman if Mario Elie's part of his staff......that would be the best way to get the bulldog type of player the rockets need without making a trade.

I agree. The only thing that kept us in close games was defense. With Adelman, there won't be any unless the guys have the will of the Batt-man. McGrady's FG% is declining, and Yao can't run. This isn't good.

Personally I'll reserve my judgement until after we get some new players. This current roster won't work in the playoffs under Adelman just like it won't work under JVG.

I just don't see how Yao will fit into an Adleman offense. Adleman likes to play an uptempo type of game, and Yao is the anti uptempo offensive player. Yao always has a hard time against uptempo teams that like to push the pace and even if it is his team initiating the pace he will probably suffer greatly from that. You have to play a slowed down game when you have a center like Yao. The teams that average the most points in the NBA and play an uptempo style are Phoenix, Dallas, Golden State and look at their centers (and Amare does not count as a center, because he is a natural PF and is 1000000x more atheletic than Yao). That style plus a not very agile center makes for a bad combination.

I'd imagine any new coach will give Yao flexibility in his game; go watch Year of Yao again and watch his quickness and spin moves. Looked about 1000x better than he really played, but I don't think anyone has seen him blow past an opponent in about 4 years.

i will expect defense to drop to to bottom middle of the pack.

there is going to have to be significant roster changes for anyone to expect much more than we've been getting.

Our defense is not going to suddenly allow +100 ppg, just because of a coaching change. JVG's defense is still ingrained in our players.
