I heard this weekend that Rudy T. could be in Portland in the future or next year because of his old good time friend and confidente - Steve Patterson.

Steve Patterson is the president of the Portland Trail Blazers NBA franchise. He joined the team in June 2003, and oversees all aspects of the organization’s business development, sales, marketing, facilities management and operations functions.

Patterson had a nine-year stint with the NBA’s Houston Rockets during which he earned a reputation as one of the most respected administrators in the league. The chief architect of the 1993-1994 Rockets squad that captured the first World Championship in franchise history, Patterson was the club’s General Manager and Alternate Governor from 1989-1993.

During that span, the Rockets won the 1992-93 Midwest Division Championship, recorded three 50-win seasons, and never had a losing record. He was regarded throughout the league as one of its top executives and was twice runner-up in the balloting for The Sporting News NBA Executive of the Year, (1991-92 & 1992-93), as voted by team presidents and general managers. Under Patterson’s direction, the Rockets were pioneers in foreign language broadcasting, creating and producing the NBA’s first season-long radio game broadcasts in Spanish and first weekly Spanish television show. He also led the club’s successful bid to host the 1989 NBA All-Star Game, which still holds the all-time attendance record of 44,735. In 1992, he negotiated, produced and promoted the NBA’s first games in Mexico, drawing sellout crowds of over 19,500 fans to the Sports Palace in Mexico City.

So let's see where Rudy T. ends up.

I also heard Rudy may go to Dallas as well but it makes more sense for him to be in Portland.

Well if he does go there, he better get used to baby sitting again. Here are the only current Blazers with a 2004-05 contract...Stoudamire, Ruben Patterson, Jeff McInnis, Zach Randolph, Qyntel Woods, Travis Outlaw & Derek Anderson.

They could have some cap room, but will have to figure out what to do with Wallace, Dale Davis and Bonzi. Re-signing Wallace will almost assuredly place them near the cap. I'll keep it simple but they are going to be faced with some real interesting personnel decisions (monetarily speaking).

Probably not the most enviable job in the league. I genuinely wish him luck. Especially if Wallace moves on.

I disagree. Patterson pretty much built the team. He was also there when the spat with Hakeem was going on, and got his point across by the suspension. Hakeem was a much better, more dedicated player after that.

He also assembled most of the championship team. He got fired once Les came in, and I believe that was the same time Les fired turbo and Calvin. the only piece on those teams that he didn't assemble was Cassell, as he was drafted after Patterson left.

He was also the one that hired Rudy as coach. Though it may have only been due to CD's heart troubles (as he was first choice to be interim coach that year), he still did it.

They guy might not get much credit on this board, but he did do a damn solid jod job of building the Rockets 2 championships.

If Rudy coached the Trailganstas, would the inmates end up running the asylum?
