I'm looking to get a blackberry for the first time. I'm leaning towards the 8310 because I can get it for a penny with a $75 rebate. (cha-ching!)

Anybody have any opinions? Is the lack of 3G that noticeable from a speed standpoint? Is it ok for internet browsing?

    Thanks.

On the Edge network for that phone, depending on the page content and number of photos, it will take anywhere from 3-10 seconds to fully load a webpage

3g is obviosly faster, but you can still surf the web just fine without it...it just takes longer. It certainly isn't unbearable.

Don't know what kind of deals they have on the Bold, but I highly recommend it.

I need to stick with AT&T (company discount). The best deal I've found on a bold is 250 bucks and I think my wife would kick my ass if I spent that much on a phone.

    Thanks for the comments!

    totally understandable.

like I said, the 8310 is just fine for web surfing.

They might have deals for a ATT Premier account. If you have a company discount, then you likely have a premier account.

I've had an 8310 for a while now, and I hate using the internet on it. Pages load way too slowly on the Edge network for my liking. Also, YouTube videos can be a pain since they won't play directly. You have to go to 3rd party site like www.vuclip.com. Other than that, I really have few complaints. It's a really nice PHONE and the e-mail is great.

Have you upgrade your firmware lately? I had to do so on my Curve and it plays SOME youtube clips now, but not all. Pages also load faster. I'm using opera for my browser and that's made a big difference.

Talking about the Curve reminded me that there's the new curve coming out next month. Last I heard T-Mobile has got first dibs so poor Verizon sods like myself have to stick with the Bold or 8830. :(

if you're on a curve, try the opera mini browser, which should speed some things up for you. also, if your browsing is mostly looking at rss feeds, try the WSJ reader, which has a feed reader built into it- speeds things up a bit.

but, to be clear, i'm trading my curve in for a bold- it just rocks harder.

You're wrong about that. Update your firmware. I have no problems playing them on my BB with the 4.5 + fw.

My firmware is updated and I've used Opera since the day my phone was purchased. It's still too slow.

Mrs. Giddyup is looking to trade up to a Blackberry Pearl (8330?) tomorrow. We are with Verizon. She wants to talk, read/send email and surf occasionally.
    Any tips for her?

does anybody else here that owns a BB Pearl (or any BB in general) have an issue with the phone auto erasing txt/call logs?

I have been told/read that I am supposed to take the battery out at least once a day.......???? I've checked my settings and everything looks right, but for some reason the phone will just erase all the txt/call logs w/o any prompt.

    any tips/advice?

    TIA.

I've had my texts disappear on my Curve for no apparent reason.
