Lol. I was gonna post something similar. Yeah, but as has been said, those nicknames were given to them, and not made up by them themselves. And when Shaq does it, it IS different because Shaq is always been known as one of the biggest goofballs in professional sports. Him calling himself "The Big_______" has never been seen as anything more than him making fun of himself. This is, in fact, one of his most endearing qualities. When Kobe does it, right or wrong, he is perceived as an arrogant, entitled prick. Not to mention that he ran one of the most dominant and best-liked centers ever to play the game off of a multiple-championship team right in the middle of what could very well have been a 5-6 championship dynasty. There's your difference.
Shaq has given nicknames out to many players and individuals around basketball.. he's actually known for being a nickname guru.
IMO if they are good they are good... If your cocky enough to give yourself a name and back it up more power to you... I love kobe as a player but sometimes he is overbearing... It's just like Lebron embracing the name of King James... both are cocky imo but at least they live up to the name.
