I know there are some users out there - what client do you use? I'm using the Burst! client, but it seems to crash my cable modem every 1-60 minutes, and I have to power it down to get my connection back.

The other problem is that I can't seem to restrict the upload bandwidth with it. I set it to 10 kb/s, but it isn't restricted at all.

I downloaded the Bit Torrent Search application and it comes bundled with download capabilities.

Although, I'm not too pleased with the search engine. But the upload restriction works, so I'm not stuck uploading at 100 kb/s and downloading at 7 kb/s

My problem with Bit Torrent is that I have no idea what it is and/or what it does.

Can anyone explain it to me like I'm a complete idiot? Shouldn't be too hard.

ima....we have discussed it in length over at Smeg's site...it would be easier to direct you to there than to go over it again here.

I've had the most success with Azureus, but it's a real memory hog.

I usually have to reboot when I finish a sizeable download.

My problem with BitTorrent (as well as Azureus) has been that it tends to make my computer crash to the BSoD (Blue Screen of Death!). I have heard a few other complaints like mine, but I don't know what causes it. Any suggestions?

I use BitTorrent Experimental and use http://www.suprnova.org to find torrents.

Have never had a problem with it crashing.

suprnova.org is the best torrent site I know of.

If anyone knows of other good torrent sites for PS2 games, please send me an e-mail to the address in my profile.

a.) maybe your ISP is shutting you down if you *upload* too much in a certain time period
b.) viruses or worms maybe?

Anybody have any issues with downloading? I used to download 75-200K/sec no problem, but now the highest I get is 50K, yet my upload is still the same, 40k/sec. Any ideas? I am on Roadrunner, and opened the ports on my router correctly, unless there are others i am not aware of. Also using Bit Tornado.

it depends on how many people are seeding and the upload speed of the seeders and how many people are simultaneously downloading with you.

re: downloading speeds....

there are many factors that come into play to determine your download speed.
Kaiser mentions the most decisive factor.....if the torrent does not havge a lot of seeds or peers with the parts you need....it will take some time.

That is why it is so important to not be a leech...once you get the file you need...leave it seeding for at least a day or so to help payback and allow others to get it also...this doesnt work if everyone doesnt do their part to share....if everyone just downloaded and then disconnected....the whole system would fail quickly.

re: crashing/BSoD issues..

the problem is not Azureus...it is the JAva version you are using...check the FAQs and the directions over at sourceforge(the link I posted earlier) to get the directions on how to get it installed correctly....I run mine in Linux, and once I got the configuration right, it has worked flawlessly for me.

here is the official FAQ for bittorrent for any that need it.. http://www.dessent.net/btfaq/

and here is a link to a thread for any specific questions and answers

Does anyone know if Road Runner has bandwidth limits? Does it matter how much you download or upload per month? I don't do anything drastic like 40gigs a month but I average around maybe 13-15gigs a month.

depending on whats goign on...I have went into the 50s of gigs of transfer....the only limits I know of are the up and down speed restrictions.

they have yet to give me a hard time, and I was running a ftp server for a couple of months...over 10G of Usenet downloads...uncounted gigs of BT downloads....transfers of files back and forth to a friends ftp server.

I keep pushing it..and they seem to ignore me. ;)
