Just turned 23.. but the bday spirit just kinda dies after the 21st bday. 23 is a strange age... I'm not a kid anymore and yet I'm not grown up.. wtf? btw, this is a drunken post So.. now that birthday fun is over, what is there to look forward to?
Come to Houston Dolls, and we'll see if we can't make it better for you next time around. Happy belated B-Day!
19 and 20 kind of suck, I just want them to hurry up and get past so I can get to destroying my liver.
I think the only real positive b-day after 21 is your 25th, when you get a tremendous break on car insurance. Now that I think about it, that's kind of pathetic.
Just prior to my 30th, my first child was born. As my 40th passed I was a single male with a nonstop lover. As my 50th passed I was the father of gorgeous toddlers-- ages 4 and 2. It just keeps getting better...
[bitter Sunday morning post] Just wait until you get past 30. After that, it's all downhill. [/bitter Sunday morning post]
Oh please....try turning 40. Now it's all downhill, but I'm grabbing whatever I can to try to slow down.
Early twenties are a difficult period of adjustment. You need to come to terms with the difference between potential and achievement. Best thing is to hunker down and work. Don't marry early. Don't take a steady girlfriend. Stay light. The more you accomplish, the better your prospects. What you can get now is not what you can pull later. You'll be smarter, more confident, more wealthy in a few years. Have fun with a few friends; do something you enjoy. Don't get caught up in the friends. They will all go away, soon enough. Make your joy something special to you. That will help you make new friends where ever you go. Build something special in yourself - art, music, writing, building - whatever. Make that an evening out of your week. Take another evening to build your skills at something you want to improve.
Despite what giddyup says, the birthdays from 40 and after suck. The only plus is that you're still alive. And hitting 50 is like someone pounding your head with a hammer saying, "You are your parents! Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!" I have 2 wonderful, young kids, but I wish I'd had them 20 years earlier. I'll be looking like the really wrinkled up dude in Kubrick's 2001 by the time I have grandchildren... if I live that long. Otherwise, life is grand.
I do like the fact that I became a father at such a young age. Being able to go to my older son's high school graduation at age 35 is kind of cool. It especially makes me feel young when I meet the parents of my sons' peers. They're all at least ten years older than I am. Of course, if I end up being a grandfather before I'm 40, that might well make me feel old. My father was 26 when I was born, and that wasn't too bad for me, but for my half brothers, I'm sure it's been a different experience for them (he was 44 when the older one was born and 46 when the younger one was born. Of course, the people who raised my father, his adoptive parents, were in their mid-40s when he was born, too).
I'll be 25 next Thursday. I know what you mean, the excitement of your b-day isn't what it used to be....but this year I'm getting the insurance breaks so it's almost like 21 all over again! yeah..it is sad
You guys located right on Rakin? I drive by there everyday to and from work, might have to stop in sometime and say hi, what do you do there?
All I know is Behad, your a pretty good baller for your age. I'm somewhat younger and I was the one breaking down.
