Well when Clinton was president and sex education and birth control were more of an emphasis teen pregnancy and abortion were lower. Those are good results.

I am in favor of it. Parents can still teach children to abstain. This won't interfere with that. I would rather have more birth control and fewer teen pregnancies.

    Brief reason why, as requested:

Because condoms don't encourage sex, they encourage protection. That is always a good thing.

This is the part that has some parents pissed off.

"allowing middle-school students to gain access to prescription birth control medications without notifying parents."

Geez, when are they going to stop taking responsibilities away from parents.

I like that Preston voted in favor of it.

When all parents allow their children access to contraception if they decide to have sex. I'm not saying 11 and 12 year olds should have sex. I think that's way too young. But some of them are doing it anyway. Would anyone here prefer that the ones that choose to have sex (even against their parents' wishes) do so without protection?

I voted in favor of because of the same reasons Batman Jones and FranchiseBlade did. Even though they are 11 and 12 year old kids, which I thought was slipped in to tilt people's vote to no, they still can and do have sex at this young age and yes some even become pregnant. Are they ready for it, probably not in most adult eyes but that usually does not stop them from doing it.

No, but the parents should be able to know when their kids is taking contraceptions. Ultimately its the parents that are responsible for raising the kids, not the school/government.

sign of the times, but with history in perspective over 100 years ago, many 11 and 12 year olds were out the house and already hitched.

One parent was furious for not including access to any type of jelly for smoother and painless first encounter.

I understand why they're doing this, but I am not a fan of the fact that an 11 year old's parents do not have to be notified if they're taking specifically birth control pills.

And what about the parents that forbid it and succeed in preventing their kids from obtaining birth control? Do you think that will stop the kids from having sex? In a case where the parents prevent birth control and the kids have sex, you wouldn't prefer they obtain birth control through other means to 11 and 12 year olds getting pregnant or getting STD's?

I'm not a fan of it either, but I prefer it to the alternative.

So I guess you don't feel that this enabling them to do so and encouraging them to do things behind the backs of their parents?

One problem with your arguement is these kids are not teenagers. And the schools have no business handing out contraception to under age children. They should get back to teaching...

I think its really stupid of them to not notify the parents about it specifically. At least give the parent a frigging chance to be responsible parents.
