In my view, Bill Walton is the best sports commentator of all time. Of course, some people may not agree, but I'm entitled to have my thoughts spoken out. I think Rockets this season will have something like 12 games to be shown on national tv (ESPN, i think). You folks will definitely be seeing/hearing him and his "Throw It Down Big Man".

I think he sucks! He is like chalk on the chalkboard. When he announces I watch the video of ESPN and listen to Calvin and Bill on a 2nd set.

While I don't disagree that Walton has some good things to say every now and then, He still needs to stop this love fest with the all-star players. I do not care to hear how great and wonderful Duncan , Shaq, Kobe, or even Yao & Steve are. He goes on mystical journeys about certain players and literally climaxes in his pants over them. Walton seems to get lost in his journeys no matter what is happening on the court.

Walton is very knowledgable but needs to focus on the game and less on the players.

As for Walton being the best commentator of all time, that is debatable.

    I agree. Walton is awesome.

And he seems a bit biased towards Houston which I like.

There's no middle ground with Walton, you either love or hate him...

Walton is awesome, IMO. He was one of the smartest players of the past quarter century, and it shows during his in-game analysis. He says some over the top things during games, but you have to take those with a grain of salt...

calvin/bill combo is better, but individually... i agree walton is the funniest. he makes watching the game more enjoyable.

regarding a james posey play: "that has to be the most horrible shot in the history of the houston rockets franchise." ... or something like that. :D

Calvin is a lot like Walton. They are both very knowledgable about the game, and both have a tendency to go over the top with their comments. The biggest thing Walton has going for him is that he dresses better than Calvin..

and most people either love them or hate them...very rarely is there a middle ground.

    Aceshigh,

He hasnt always been friendly to Houton....that didnt start till after Yao made a believer out of him last season, iirc.

Walton to Yao is what Bob Coastas to Kobe. Walton's Yaorgasm erupts like a volcano each time Yao scores two points. But at least Walton is graphic and entertaining in contrary to Coastas. I'll take that any day.

Walton is an intolerable moron. I cringe every time he opens his mouth. Each time I have to listen to him I pray to the basketball gods that he will be fired. Then I just put the damn TV on mute.

    Intolerable, hyperbole-throwing fool.

I would rather watch paint dry then listen to Bill Walton. He is an annoying idiot. I pray before every NBA game that I watch that he will not be doing it. He is one of the worst annoucers I have ever seen.

He's more like the circus clown to me... If I were at one of his commentating games I wish tomato throwing was allowed..

Actually, I think he's always been pro-Houston. He loved Hakeem and he loved Rudy. He still talks about them. Anytime he talks about the "great teams" of the past, he always mentions the Rockets 2 championships. Probably the only national media person that actually remembers them.

Personally, besides the over the top hyperbole, I like him.

When Bill Walton commentates I want to stab myself in the ears with ice picks. He hated Houston when we were winning. No matter who we were playing he would go on and on about the other team and how he never thought we had a chance. I wish someone would put a feed bag on his horse face as to keep him from talking so damn much. He reminds me of the donkey from Shrek that just wont shut up.

Bill Walton? I remember during the 1995 championship run, Walton actually suggested that the Rockets would be better off not scoring at the end of a half so they could in down by 1. For some reason Walton thought that was better. The guy is clueless.

At first I thought this was a troll thread, but then I saw that a lot of people liked Walton. Oh well. To each his own.
