The funny part I think is Yi Jianlian I think it's interesting to read, if you are interested and want to know other players' ranks please read the whole article here http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/071218&campaign=rsssrch&source=bill_simmons
That’s why they call the Bill Simmons show the BS report. It's all BS. However, what he said about Tracy is true.

Unfortunately, nobody can figure out the Chairman's exact age. Word on the street is he's at least 22 and possibly two years older than that -- I tried to start a rumor last week that he was really 35, but it didn't take -- making him impossible to project for the future. We're sticking him here to be safe. It remains inexplicable that we can solve murders with the help of a single hair fiber or a drop of saliva, but we can't figure out the exact ages of Cuban baseball players and Asian basketball players. Yi really only 20 years old, Oct 27,1987 . 1.94m when he was 12. At the age of 15,he has into the national team,he is the youngest all-star in cba so far. Because of very good physical condition,so people doesn't believe his age。
this just in, Yao is only 17 !!! That's right, he started his NBA career at the age of 10 !! no wonder he was getting pushed around by all these big black men that are much smaller than him! and he started to grow facial hair at the age of only 15!
*cannot edit posts* come to think of it, wouldn't that be so nice if we somehow found out that Yao was really only 24 years old?
There have been people on this board that swear on their life that Hakeem was actually in his 40's when we thought he was 32.
so deron williams and chris paul are more valuable then yao and it took dwight howard all of a month to get the recognition that yao has deserved for the last 3 years. hilarious.
Yes yes yes yes yes. They've worked their butts off (not that Yao hasn't) and done something Yao has never done: DOMINATE. Chris Paul and Deron Williams are bad comparisons though; they're point guards. But Dwight Howard? He changes games. Yao never tried to rock the boat; Dwight Howard realizes his size and that, yes, he IS bigger than both guys on him. And on the defensive end, he realizes that, once again, he IS bigger than most of the other players. And he plays like it; he's a better defender than Yao could ever hope to be. To top it off, his power offensive game and athleticism are great matches for ANY team looking to add a game-changing player. But back to Deron Williams and CP3... All 3 players change the game when they're in. All 3 make DRASTIC improvements to teams they're playing. But Yao? Tracy? Replace them with a similar player. See what it does. I'll finish with something said on Inside the NBA a few days ago. Neither Yao nor Tracy fill it up in another statistical category. They can both score, and T-Mac's a pretty good defender. Bother are decent passers. But neither player has something *else* to bring to the team besides scoring. And that's why, I tell ya, they get no respect.
Agreed. I would say that TmAc is a little low on the list. For example, I think he would rate a little higher then Josh smith. Though Smith makes less money now, hes bound to sign a massive deal next year that will ludicrisly overpay him. I would also take Dirk and Kobe over Yao. Just my 2cents.
There is no need to convince others of anything here. people tends to believe what they want to believe, instead of facts. They have their believes.
You can't just replace Yao with Kobe unless our coach is Don Nelson. You *need* a good big man in the NBA, and Deke is not it (no offense meant to Cookie Monster, but he can't swing it on the offensive end. He's the anti-Yao). But Dirk comes with the same problems as Yao; he can't play D and doesn't fill up the stat sheet anywhere but points. And Yao has a lot more versatility than Dirk; if his shot isn't falling, you move him close to the basket. Kobe, on the other hand, I can't see working with T-Mac. T-Mac-for-Kobe I get; Yao-for-Kobe I do not. You need a center that can score. Just look at how much better Chicago would be with LaMarcus Alderidge. There's not a heck of a lot more centers in this league I'd take over Yao. I'm not convince about Amare; I don't think he's Ultraman without Nash. Emeka Okafor, Dwight Howard, Greg Oden... These I'd take. And if you'll consult the archives of ClutchFans, you'll see that I was taking this position looooong before Dwight Howard turned into HULK SMASH. In this system, the ideal player is Dwayne Wade. He'll cut hard to the basket EVERY time. Pair him with Bonzi, and see how much better the Rockets become. See? See? AWESOME.
i don't understand why people get all pissy over bill simmons and make fun of him. He's hilarious, and he founded and transcended the pop culture/sports writing technique to what it is today. He never claims to be the end all be all, he just claims to be a fan, and he even admits he lost his credibility after his 3rd article. But he is really smart, especially when it comes to the NBA.
When Barkeley said that, he neglected to realize that Yao was averaging 10+ rebounds, and recently had a 17 rebound game, and was currently having another huge rebounding game that night too. So, yes, Yao does bring something significant aside from scoring - he is an underrated rebounder. Dwight Howard is better than Yao overall right now. Howard is an absolute monster on the boards. His numbers are ridiculous. He's better than Amare, Bosh, Okafor, or anyone else playing the 4/5 not named Garnett or Duncan. But Chris Paul? Please. When Paul gets to the playoffs, then we'll talk about "dominating." Because right now, Yao has been much more dominant. When Houston played Orlando, Orlando was running triple teams against Yao and swarming him - clearly they knew Dwight didn't have the defensive ability to defend Yao. But Yao was guarding Dwight 1 on 1, so that statement is false. Yao is an excellent low-post defender. If we're talking about scoring threats, Yao easily has the edge over Howard. Why in hell would you take Oden, who hasn't played 1 single NBA game yet, and just came off microfracture knee surgery, and had his ceiling compared to Ewing (before surgery for a current 25 and 10 player in Yao? Good thing they didn't make you GM, because Portland would love that trade. Portland would take that in a second: PG. Steve Blake SG. Brandon Roy SF. Martell Webster PF. LeMarcus Aldridge C. Yao Ming Bench: Channing Frye, Jarret Jack, Travis Outlaw, James Jones, Przybilla That's a perennially contender for the next decade.
I am tired of fans that complain about how low our team is ranked, how our players get no respect, etc. First Yao by undeservingly making the all star game his first two years "stole" recognition from other players that were more worthy. And second yao has to earn respect and recognition. Many people continued to list shaq ahead of yao over the past few years (though i did not agree i can definitely see where they are coming from) because yao has never proven a thing in the post season. Shaq is a 4 time nba champion, that brings more than what his stats indicate, in his post season experience and court presence, while yao has never left the first round, and continues to show us that defensively he has many match up problems. It is hard to put a guy with no post season success ahead of a legend especially when their stats did not differ by a huge amount.
Which other Center aside from Shaq should have been on the West as a Center Yao's first 2 seasons? Brad Miller? Also, if Yao underservingly made the team, then so did Shaq when Shaq made the team in previous seasons after missing numerous games.
I am sure that this year he will win a playoff serie. By the way, last year, it wasnt his fault if we havent win the playoff serie.
First off, it's B-A-R-K-L-E-Y. Second, I'm pretty sure Magic said it. True, we'll see. But he has been a consistent Rocket killer for a while now. Then why do the Rockets take Yao out of the game every crucial defensive stop at the end of the game? They're almost CERTAINLY not taking him out to avoid hack-a-Yao. They had 3 guys on Yao because if you shut down Yao, you pretty much shut down the Rockets. They had 3 guys on Yao because the offense is run through him, and he has difficulty beating a double or triple team. They had 3 guys on Yao because there was NO ONE ELSE who would bring it on the Rockets. And Yao was *not* enough on Howard. I watched Dwight Howard (in person) outplay Yao in that game. Youth. Trade bait. Athleticism. Power game. Defense. All good things in the NBA.
Magic said that the Rockets should trade T-Mac, it was Barkley that said Yao and McGrady didn't bring any aspects to the game aside from scoring. Because it's unlikely that the other is going to run a play through their Center and post-up, where Yao is at his best? And taking Yao out takes away the possiblity of guards running into Yao, and getting a cheap whistle? You mean the game where Yao got 19 and 17? Let's look at their numbers: Yao - 19 points 17 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals 3 blocks Howard - 12 points 11 rebounds 0 assists 0 steals 3 blocks Anyone who watched that game knows that Yao outplayed Howard, especially in the 4th. It was just unfortunate that the majority of the team let Yao down again. Every Orlando scorer was in double-digits. Meaning the Rockets were absolutely useless both offensively and defensively. Outside of Yao, Alston, and Wells, everyone was useless that game. 1. Youth - Okay, and we would want Oden instead of Yao just because he's younger? While ignoring the fact that Oden has a lower ceiling offensively, knee, and wrist problems? 2. Trade bait - Nothing Yao, McGrady, Battier, or any other Rocket isn't. 3. Athleticism - And you know this because you've seen Oden play an NBA game? 4. Power game - And you know this because you've seen Oden play an NBA game? 5. Defense- And you know this because you've seen Oden play an NBA game? Way to make wild assumptions. I'm glad our GM doesn't.
