So Bill Simmons has been promoting the paperback re-release of his magnum opus, The Book of Basketball, and gave away posters of his Hall of Fame Pyramid at the book signings. On his page at ESPN.com, they just put up a pdf version of the poster, and I have to say, it's damn good, and I'm definitely going to order a giant high quality print for my wall when I get the chance.

By my count, the poster has probably the 50 greatest players of all time, including the Rockets Finest: Clyde in the Red and Mustard  , Moses in the Sixers, and Dream in the Pajamas  . There is only one championship trophy between all these 50 legends however, and of course, this being Boston Sports Guy Bill Simmons, who thinks the '86 Celtics, who beat the Rockets in the finals, are the greatest feat of mankind since the airplane, take a wild guess as to who is holding it....

    Respect...

And looks like he doesn't even want to be there in the poster?

Yet look at David Robinson to far left staring down right at Hakeem with a vexed expression and ENVY in his eyes

    LOL

Good to see Hakeem holding the trophy and all but it really doesn't mean much. Seems like most NBA fans in general forget about him when it comes to "who's the greatest besides Jordan" conversations. Hakeem is #2 imo.

Are you so sure? Yao was the first great Asian player, he got the most populous nation in the world interested in basketball. The NBA has a whole new market in China now because of Yao alone.

Great. Simmons wasn't ranking players based on marketability.

Of course Nowitzki ranks higher than Yao in terms of basketball.

I wish Hakeem was in red and gold.

And I'm sure Blazer fans would liked to have seen Drexler in red and black.

    There were a few I couldn't recognize.

Who's second to the left on the top row?

Who's the player sitting directly below Naismith?

I guess I can understand you not realizing that a book called The Book of Basketball was about basketball.

They've got Hakeem looking like Coolio because of the "BULLS" lettering behind his head. :(

It's phenomenal. Infinitely better than Simmons' book, in my opinion.
