One or two, maybe, but five separate settlements?

Bill O’Reilly Calls Himself ‘Target’ After Report Details History of Harassment Claims and Settlements at Fox News
    http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/bill-oreilly-fox-news-1202020701/
Bill O’Reilly, Fox News or parent company 21st Century Fox issued five payouts to women totaling about $13 million in exchange for them to not pursue legal action against the conservative commentator and “O’Reilly Factor” host, according to a New York Times report published Saturday.

Two of the cases were reportedly settled after former Fox News chairman Roger Ailes exited the company in the wake of several sexual harassment allegations. At the time, the company issued a statement saying, “There’s absolutely no room anywhere at our company for behavior that disrespects women or contributes to an uncomfortable work environment.”

The women, who either worked for O’Reilly or appeared on his show, accused him of “a wide range of behavior,” according to the report, including “verbal abuse, lewd comments, unwanted advances and phone calls in which it sounded as if Mr. O’Reilly was masturbating.”

Variety has reached out to Fox News to request a comment.

O’Reilly called himself a “target for those who would harm me and my employer” in a statement issued on his website on Saturday.

“Just like other prominent and controversial people, I’m vulnerable to lawsuits from individuals who want me to pay them to avoid negative publicity,” he wrote. “Those of us in the arena are constantly at risk, as are our families and children. My primary efforts will continue to be to put forth an honest TV program and to protect those close to me.”

O’Reilly also wrote that in more than two decades at the company, “no one has ever filed a complaint” against him with Human Resources.

Two of the five settlements mentioned in the New York Times expose had previously been reported. A $9 million settlement was reached in 2004 with produced Andrea Mackris, who sued the host for sexual harassment. The other was reached for $1.6 million with Juliet Huddy, who alleged that O’Reilly had pursued a sexual relationship with her in 2011. Of the three additional settlements covered in the new report, two alleged sexual harassment and one claimed she was verbally abused.

O’Reilly’s lawyer, Fredric S. Newman, issued a statement to the New York Times on Friday. “We are now seriously considering legal action to defend Mr. O’Reilly’s reputation,” he wrote.

It is, but if they don't talk about all the anti-Christian stuff they do they're still about "family values"

LOL. Political groups don't get tax-exempt status since they don't promote social aware. My dad is cheap and he is a conservative.

bill o'reilly being a lech is not new news. fox news had to pay millions to settle multiple sexual harassment cases against o'reilly.

remember the harassing phone calls he made to a woman talking about how he wanted to shower with her and scrub her down with a falafel (he meant loofah).

he recently lost custody of his kids because he beat up his wife in front of them.

he also wrote novels talking about grown men smoking crack and having sex with underage girls.

I think there is reason to suspect O'Reilly is a lech, but him writing fictional novels isn't one of them. I think it's rotten to try and attack the man because of fiction that he writes.

i think its rotten to attack rappers and "hollywood" for promoting sex and violence and things you think are against "american-values" while at the same time making money off a book you wrote where grown men smoke crack and have sex with underage girls. i think its rotten to rant about how there is a war on christmas and how liberals dont like to say "merry christmas" and how PC culture is making everyone say "happy holidays"...while you are selling bill o'reilly "holiday ornaments" on your website. i think its rotten to act like you are the arbiter of what good and decent america is represented by, but at the same time you are peddling a book that promotes pedophillia and your boss had to pay millions to settle multiple sexual harassment cases against you and you lost custody of your kids for dragging your wife down the stairs by her neck infront of them.

    f*** bill o'oreilly.

You're correct, it is rotten to go after rappers and "Hollywood" the way he does. O'Reilly has been rotten for quite a while though. I thought the thread was about him being a lech.

If it's about him being a hypocrite and and profiting by attacking others, then he's guilty of that as well.

Somehow, I thought it was already well-established that he had a seedy past when it comes to sexual harassment. I thought I recalled those alleged recordings of him were released to the public, but I guess that never happened?

He sure seems like the type of person who thinks he can get away harassing women to feel powerful.

O'Reilly paid $13 million dollars to settle sexual harassment claims against him? Nobody tosses $13 million at a problem simply to make it "go away." Not unless the "problem" was pretty freakin' serious. Not when you are "only" as rich as O'Reilly is. In my humble opinion. The cat might consider changing his behavior.
