He was Genius. Wasn't this footage in a documentary already? Maybe I've just only seen clips of it...
I've heard some of his stuff on XM and didn't think it was all that funny. I heard one of his skits and thought he had lost his marbles onstage. Maybe I need to find some more of his stuff and try again...
yeah he is one of my favorites. he is from texas actually read his biography. the last two years of his life he was up for some type of national comedic award and lost both times to carrot top. all the ammo i need to really not like carrot top.
pro-lifers had bought a commercial spot during the show and letterman didn't want to risk offending them. here's just one of the many links on the subject.... http://www.konformist.com/2000/bill-hicks.htm
Me either. The only thing I can think of is that Letterman had just recently moved to CBS (a few months - I think) and didn't want to ruffle any of the new bosses feathers. And the footage I refered to in an earlier post was a Trio documentary called "Outlaw Comic - The Censoring of Bill Hicks". It showed him doing the routine on stage at a later time.
The man is a freaking Legend!!!! His humor is not for everyone , especially conservatives, evangelicals, non smokers, right to lifers, people who do commercials, Dick Clark, rich people, hecklers and anyone who ever pissed him off. He can be a bit too vulgar, but if you can see past that and the stuff mentioned above, well then, enjoy one of the greatest comics of all time. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/C99eZY4V5w8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/C99eZY4V5w8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> this one has some bad language and watch out for the Rick roll at 3:10 <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ndRp1wjbQgs&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ndRp1wjbQgs&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I still have my letter from the Bill Hicks Fan Club (Sacred Cow) notifying of his death. I remember thinking it was a bad joke (a la Andy Kaufman). The thing I took away from that show last night was how utterly LAME David Letterman is. His show is pathetic. I haven't watched an episode since the late, late night years (NBC) and now I know why. I "should be" his target audience (by age), but his "humor" completely escaped me last night. Bill Hicks will never die.
Missed this Friday. Will have to find it online. Huh. I'd read about the "John Lennon is dead" Leary appropriation, but never seen it side by side before, nor realized it was so extensive. Essentially, half of "No Cure for Cancer" is weakly reworded Hicks. All three parts of this are telling (NSFW: language): <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/INarE1WraFA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/INarE1WraFA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
