I donno about you guys but watching the games and rockets play is great but what putts them over the top has to be Bill and Calvin. Its just great seen them two go play by play, EASILY the best part about the rockets organization, hell thats the reason i stay home n watch the games instead of go to the arena , IMO of course. HOW ABOUT YOU, WHATS YOUR FAVORIT THING ??
Bill & Calvin are very underrated. They are complete opposites and so they completely complement each other. Also, it feels like they're just a couple of knowledgable fans watching the game - like you're watching the game with friends.
Please tell me your being sarcastic? At first Calvin used to get on my nerves but I have gotten used to him and actually like what he brings to the table but Bill Worrel has just gotten worse and worse. Instead of doing his job and calling the game he constantly plays around and ribs Calvin. He is the worst play by play guy I have ever heard. Half the time he isn't even talking about the game. Sometimes he annoys me so much I turn the volume down on my tv and turn the radio on to 610.
i'm glad the rockets got Bill and Calvin. I don't know if you've ever heard any of the other local announcers for other teams but some are god awful.
I'm more of a Gene & Jim kinda guy... I regularly turn the tv sound off and crank up the radio to listen to THE VOICE OF THE HOUSTON ROCKETS, Mr. Gene Peterson!! But the best part about the Rockets is CLUTCH THE BEAR!!! That bear rules!
Gene nd Jim will give u the best idea of how the games goin on without having a tv infront of you. but Calvin has to be the funniest commentator in sports. atleast in america. my fav part has to be him eating cookies at his job
They're better than most teams, but Calvin has bought into his own hype too much. I think a lot of color guys are like that, tbh. At first, they're fresh and original... but soon become cariacatures of themselves. Eventually the quirks become annoying, rather than endearing, as they're overemphasized. Calvin and Bill still have chemistry... but Calvin needs to tone it down a bit.
Anyone hear Bill in the last game. There are six players tonight with 4 fouls, three for the Nuggets and two for the Rockets. Hilarious! I agree Bill sucks majorly on the 'Stros games but he and Calvin are a fun team to listen to.
Bill and Calvin are pretty good once you get past all the antics. They tell it like it is and aren't afraid to say when the Rockets are playing like crap. If you listen to Gene-O, well it's all the ref's fault.
as someone else mentioned, THEY'RE NEVER ON LEAGUE PASS! something to do with not showing games on fox sports or something. i maybe heard them 6 or 7 times on LP last year (though i got to hear them during winter and spring break). i think they're great. they complement each other very well, have chemistry, joke around with each other, and know the game. they like the rockets and you know you're getting the game from a rockets perspective when you watch but they're never afraid to praise the other team and only rarely get on the refs (i could never be that calm). they're fair but root for the rockets and i think that's how all local broadcasts should be. there are some good ones out there around the league, especially marv and clyde for the knicks imo, but i'll take bill and calvin any day of the week. just hope neither stops doing it before i graduate from UT and get to listen to them full time in houston.
Bill and Calvin are my favorite commentators. I love Calvin's antics on the sideline. Plus Calvin says and expresses almost exactly what I see and feel. When Gerald Wallace dunked on Boki, and Calvin started screaming, my boys and I all did the same thing as soon as it happened.
Ohmiland you must be kidding. Calvin's fine on the basketball stuff, but the cookies and the singing are god awful. Second most embarassing thing about being from Texas. I'm with rockHEAD. Radio killed the video star.
Agreed, they tell it like it is, but are Rockets fans at the sametime. No local team should be above criticism from the local fans and commentator's. When they Rockets sucked last year, they told it like it was. Expressed the same feelings that we do here. But when they played good, they let it be known. I love Calvin's character. As for the guy who said Calvin has bought into his own hype... Not the case at all, if you ever meet him personally, he is just a bubbley person. It is Genuine that is far more than what you can expect from most people. Calvin and Bill get a big thumbs up from me....
Man I live here in Faker land , Los Angles. There worst are the Laker annoucers , Stu Lance and so other guy i forget his name, anyway Stu Lance gets on my damn nerves everytime. He doesn even call the action, all he does is kiss Shaq 's ass the entire game. talking bout " look at the big fella, u dont wanna made Shaq mad, Look at Shaq, bla bla bla...call the damn game.
great chemistry between those 2......they make watchin the Rocks, even when they're gettin blown out, interestin and fun......Calvin is the greatest though. Very entertaining duo.....
