I need some information from those who know about track bikes (aka single speed, fixed gear, messenger...) what is the thickest tire you can put on a track bike frame? from my research ive noticed that most track bikes have 700x23 wheels... currently im commuting on a hybrid (700x28 wheel) but im thinking about switching over to a single speed. i think a wheel with a width of 23 isnt ideal for commuting. any info would be greatly appreciated.
at the bike shop i used to work at, a lot of messengers use 23s. they usually put quality tires one them, bontragers with kevlar and side traction.
heh if you are really concerned about it, you can just get a hardtail mountain bike like a trek 4500 and put on slicks. ask a bike shop mechanic about the thicker tires, they can provide you with a better answer than i can.
thanx for the help. im already rolling on a hardtail mountain bike w/ slicks. trying to get something a little bit faster. i guess you cant have the cake and eat it too...
