Not gonna throw gay-battier up here since carroll was GM at that point - tho it smacks of a morey move
From what I understand, that had to be done. Now, the Thabeet deal as a whole, that was a glaring mistake...
Im tempted to say "not pursuing Amar'e due to medical", but I dont remember what we were having to give up to get that deal done.
I don't see how it is. Battier was an expiring and nobody wanted him badly enough to trade something good for him. So we traded for what we needed: a tall center. Except that this tall center is extremely raw. Oh well? You can't teach height. We also got a future pick...but seriously, giving up Ish for that?? Cmon.
Can't believe people here think not pursuing Amare without the medical is a mistake. LOL if someone comes up to you and offers you a BMW for 10,000$ but you can't look at it first would you buy it? IMHO the biggest mistake is signing Brad Miller to 5M a year deal. It was definitely a head scratcher when it was announced, and its still a head scratcher now. The 2nd biggest mistake IMHO is not signing that young center from Utah, and the 3rd biggest was not jumping on Anthony Morrow when GS traded him.
After seeing how easily we wasted our talent today, I'd be inclined to agree... ...However, with Amar'e there are numerous amounts of people who believe the guy has maybe 3/4 years left on that knee. Phoenix wouldn't resign him, not because of the money, but because of the length of the contract. If we traded for him the only way he would have stayed is if we offered up a 5 year deal. That seems a bit too long for a guy whose knee is still questionable.
I'm surprised at the vehenence against the Bat-thabeet-ier. Move. I love shane but his window is closing. A first rounder is good enough and anything thabeet can give - likely nothing - is gravy
I suppose you're right; but Shane, as much as Clutchfans may hate him, has a reputation and was probably coveted by multiple teams (even if not for a very high price). I consider obtaining Thabeet a negative for anything; but I guess the first rounder makes it okay.
How on earth can he predict that? And how many teams were willing to give up a superstar for either of them?
I'm not doing it justice but BimaThug explained it in another thread. It boiled down to roster spots. I'm not exactly sure of the specifics, but adding in Ish made the trade work...
Except the it wasnt a BMW, it was renting a BMW for 40 days for 10,000. We offerred the BMW a spot in our garage that offseason and it chose drove away. In retrospect it was the correct move, because he was leaving for NY regardless.
no. Morey refused to acknowledge two commonsense: a) TMAC is a loser. b) Yao's injury is unavoidable. "Wait and see" only got Rockets bad backs and bad knees.
