Came back from a late dinner with a Fox Sports advertising guy and he told me something that we Rockfans can relate to.

Supposedly, the Knicks are trying to trade Patrick Ewing to Portland for Grant and Oneal. That, my friends, have the Knick faithful...VERY, VERY happy!

The Knick faithful are not as attached to their big man as we are to ours. Yea, some people are upset. But the MSG average ticket price of 40 beans should have at least one championship in the Ewing era and that is exactly how NY is looking at it. In addition, many here are sick and tired of Ewing year after year promising a championship.

As of right now, it looks like a 35 percent chance of happening. Since Ewing has already stated that he wants to play 3 more years, the Knicks would rather trade him than lose him for nothing.

Portland would have to be crazy unless there are some draft picks involved.

Ewing spends too much time on IR and Sabonis isn't physically sound either.

If Portland wants a center, they should talk to the Hawks.

Is it crazy if Grant is going to leave anyway, even considering their age and high chance of injury, thats' a fairly good double headed monster at Centre in Ewing and Arthritis Sablownees.

But it would be crazy to give Ewing a 3 year deal, and if O'Neal is included you got to think another player and draft picks would have to be included.

Almu, apart from the Rocks, I happen to love the Knicks. You are in New York, I am in Sydney. Thus, you know New Yorkers better than me.

So, can you answer me this? What's there problem with Ewing? I only have admiration for the guy. He busts his ass year after year...and only gets criticism.

Due to the beauty of Cable TV, I have been able to see every Knicks play off game in the past few years, and I don't see why they crap on the guy. He got them past Miami both years, he plays injured...what else do they want? The team just wasn't good enough.

This years Indiana series was lost because of Houston going ice cold whenever it counted...and Spree going missing when it most counted. Throw in that Camby cannot hit a THREE footer...

Ewing busts his ass...and gets crapped on.

Spree whines like an old lady and b****es about a team mate behind his back (as low as it gets) and is a hero?

Ewing is a Warrior and I hope they trade him to a contender and he gets a ring, comes back to New York and shoves it right up them...

Ewing for both Grant and O'neal? The fact is, Ewing isn't worth either one of those players alone, much less together.

Seriously, didn't they learn their lesson offering Larry Johnson straight up for Grant?

Portland would benefit in the short term. Sabonis and Ewing might be able to contain Shaq for the next two years. So this might be a good deal for Portland in the short term. A lineup of Ewing, Rasheed, Quitten, Steve, and Damon is pretty damn good. Backups: Sabonis, Detlef, Bonzi, and Anthony. They might get one championship before Sabo, and Ewing become completely useless.

That team is pretty good. They mix well. You got three dream Teamers, plus two virtual all stars. They will be very balanced and lose next to nothing in terms of their rotation. It would be the move of the offseason. Ewing would fit in perfectly. Twin towers at times. That's a really solid team even tho I'd hate 'em.

Just because Kemp weighs as much as Shaq now doesnt mean he will be able to stop him. But even if Kemp reports in shape, Portland has two awesome forwards and one fu@ked up Center in Sabo. What they should be doing is trying to trade Grant and Jermaine for Mutombo. That trade benefits both teams. Atlanta can feature Jermaine, Grant, Demarr and Jimmy. I think they also have a pretty good young point guard.

65% of that trade not happening. Portland is not that dumb (almost, but not quite)

In the West, you've got to go thru Shaq and Robinson. Sabonis just isn't enough. Kemp helps against Lakers big time lack of PF, but Shaq still owns them inside.

Would they be interested in getting Cato back?

I wouldn't mind giving up Cato for Grant and O'Neal.

They'd be getting ROYALLY screwed in that trade. I think a move like that would be a precurser to manditory drug testing for GMs.

    What the hell? [IMG]

When exactly did Brian Grant become Michael Jordan? Am I the only guy who thinks he's overrated?

ScreamingRocketJet is right. Ewing should be held about as close to the hearts of Knicks fans as Hakeem is to us. The man has dedicated his career to trying to bring them a title and they don'tgive a damn about him.

Geez, trading him for Grant and O'Neal? That's like us trading Hakeem for Thorpe and P.J. Brown... [IMG]

If Portland's able to rape Cleveland and bring in Kemp, look out.

    Kemp reportedly would welcome deal

    Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Trail Blazers are prepared to sign, then trade Brian Grant to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Shawn Kemp, The Oregonian reported Monday.

According to the newspaper's sources, the Blazers are hopeful that the financial leverage they wield will convince Grant to take the sign-and-trade option and join the Cavaliers. Cleveland initially was interested in acquiring Grant only if he came with no more than a five-year contract.

But the Cavaliers now are willing to take on a six-year contract, the sources said. Grant would agree to sign with the Blazers for close to $9 million-plus next season, the maximum amount the league allows a six-year veteran to receive in a new contract.

Annual increases could bring the total value of a six-year contract to more than $70 million.

The team does not comment on contract negotiations or trades, Blazers spokeswoman Sue Carpenter said.

But one source cited by The Oregonian said weekend negotiations "made it clearer than ever that the Kemp-Grant trade is very likely."

"I think this deal is going to happen," the newspaper quoted the other source as saying.

Grant's agent, however, said no deal, including one with Cleveland, was imminent.

"Nothing is on the table right now. Nothing is close," Mark Bartelstein said.

Kemp's agent, Tony Dutt, declined to talk about the potential of a Portland-Cleveland deal but said Kemp would be excited to play for the Blazers.

"This would be a tremendous opportunity for Shawn," Dutt said.

Kemp has tremendous respect for Blazers president Bob Whitsitt and assistant coach Tim Grgurich, Dutt said. Whitsitt was the Seattle SuperSonics GM who drafted Kemp, and Grgurich was an assistant in Seattle when Kemp played there.

"Shawn would look forward to going to Portland and winning a championship, which has always been his goal," Dutt said.

NBA teams may begin signing free agents and resume trading on Tuesday.

Let me answer the Ewing questions.

The problem with Ewing is not that he doesn't play hard, its that he talks to much and doesn't talk enough.

For example, in 1993, they go up 2-0 against the Bulls. All of a sudden, Ewing predicts sweep, then predicts they will win the championship. Most fans of NY say that he pissed off Jordan with those comments. They lose to the Bulls.

In 1994, he guarantees another championship. They make it to the finals and he gets completely outplayed by SuperDream. I remember it like yesterday. The NYC media HAMMERED him for not standing up to Olajuwon.

In 1995, he completely shuts off from the media. Won't talk to the press at all. He gets fined alot, but didn't speak until the playoffs. What do you think he says? He says they are the best team in the East and they are going to the finals. In game 7 against Indiana, he scores 22pts and grabs 20 rebounds but MISSES the final game winning shot. Once again, he gets hammered.

In 1996, against the Bulls, he proclaims that they are a better team than the Bulls despite the fact that the Bulls win 72 games. On top of that, VanGundy rags on Jordan calling him your friend one minute and your enemy the next. Ewing agrees. Everytime Jordan plays the Bulls, he whips up on them for at least 40. Once again, Mouth Ewing gets it from the press.

In 1999, he and Childs guarantee a championship, but nothing happens. Again, he gets ripped because in the 15 years he has been here, they call him a second class superstar behind Jordan, Olajuwon, Malone and now Duncan.

Its not that they hate him here. Its that he comes across as surly and arrogant despite the fact that he hasn't won a damn thing besides a college championship. On top of that, many fans want the Knicks to run and they feel that VanGundy and Allan Houston defer too much to Ewing when he plays. Sprewell and Ewing don't get along because Latrell does whatever the hell he wants since he is the best player on the team. VanGundy still wants the ball through Ewing. The fans want the ball in Latrells hands 24/7 and want Ewing to just concentrate on rebounding. Ewing during the season says its still his team.

VanGundy, I am sure, is not pushing for this trade. Dave Checketts is. He wants to win to justify the prices at MSG. Without it, the fans are getting pissed and are about to overthrow the local government. [IMG]

Almu, I had to laugh reading your last post. It brought back memories of Joe Namath. He "boasted" that the jets would win the Super Bowl. I'll be dammed if they didn't do it, and against unbelievable odds.

Ewing would be the darling of NYC if the Knicks had won just one of those championships.

Guess he has 3 years to redeem himself [IMG]

Just wanted to say thanks for the answers...due to the time difference and the fact I am dead tired after work, I haven't had a chance until now to come check out the baords. Am going for a long shower now mate...so this will be quick.

I know Ewings history of quotes, but I admire him for that. I love the way he stood up to Jordan. Same goes for Van Gundy. I really hated the way everyone brown nosed Jordan. Ewing gets full props from me in the "Church Bell sized balls" category.

Sure...he failed to deliver, but man did he go close. Starks hits THAT shot and Pat wins a ring.

Anyway...I should stop rambling. I enjoy your posts mate. Go the Rocks!
