Don't know how many snide comments I'll have to sift through with this thread, but here goes.

Anyone else here have difficulty finding a shoe that is not only comfortable but durable, too?

I'm talking mainly about "sneakers", "tennis shoes" (hiking, walking, cross trainers). I wear a 14B so my choices are, uh, narrow (ahem). I've been buying New Balance forever because they make shoes with different widths. Most brands just go with "Size Shaq" (i.e., long shoe, wide shoe).

Some of the New Balance shoes are decent and others just seem to wear out too quickly (my wife and I do a lot of walking, but still). I also have high arches and so wear orthotics. I need a well-cushioned shoe because once it starts to "thin" (maybe people with imperfect feet will understand this?) I'll have foot pain of some kind or another (sole, base of the toe, whatever). The pain isn't chronic or horrific or anything but is, well, a pain.

Are there other brands that make different widths that would be a better option? There aren't many. I see Nike makes some shoes in my size. Naturally they are more expensive, but if they last longer I'll spend the money.

if my shoes size was 14, I would just walk barefoot , I spent 20+ years having issues with shoes until a chiropractor figured out it was a misalignment

My cousin that works with/for me has giant flipper feet. He orders shoes (flips, tevas, hiking boots, tennis shoes...) from Zappo, iirc. He hasn't had a bad experience yet.

I wear a 15 D, but more comfortably a 14EEE. So i'd say I have the opposite problem from you. Finding shoes in our sizes are very difficult. I'd definitely look for specialty shoes. eBay and Amazon have searchable shoes in your size (just did a quick search). Of course finding your favorite will be trial and error.
