Ever since this board brought it to my attention that Rudy T is looking for big men who can hit the three, I've tried to rack my brain trying to think of full sized centers who can knock down the three and I can't think of many. Only Sam Perkins, Vlade Divac, Danny Ferry (may be a PF), Jason Collier, and Chris Mihm come to mind. Perkins, Divac, and Ferry are all way too old for this team. Can you all think of any centers out there available on teams in the NBA who we could bring in as backups to Cato who could hit that three point shot? It might add a nice dimension to our team. I'm not just talking about a Bullard replacement, but a center (unless you think Bullard could back up Cato ). Thanks. ------------------
Oakdogg- When I was looking to see if Ben Wallace was a FA a few minutes ago, I came across a name that might fit what you were looking for- Terry Mills. He is in my opinion the best 3 point shooting center in the NBA. He can't do much else, but if you are talking about having him as a backup he is the best in the league at shooting from the outside. He has size at 6'10/250 pounds, and shot 39% from behind the arc. By the way, he is also a FA if we happened to be interested in him. ------------------
Well, when you're talking C's who shoot 3s, it's a rare breed. And y'all have pretty much gone through the list - the only one I could add would be LaFrentz (a little undersized, but played C in Denver and hit alot of 3s). But do we necessarily need a 3 point shooter? Or could a 15-18 foot jump shooter work? Guys like Wennington and Greg Foster come pretty cheap... ------------------
Michael Doleac. He does not quite have three pt range but can shoot the 18 foot shot. Not sure if he's available or if Orlando would have any desire to deal him, but I think he could be a solid complementary big man on this team. Also, he has legit center size at 6-11 262. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
What about Travis Knight? When he got traded to the Celtics I remember seeing him launch some threes. He is the only center I can think of, he is a pretty good shooter for a big man (who is young). Derrick Coleman Can shoot the three but I dont see him getting traded.. ------------------ "Lamar Odom, Elton Brand, Wally Szczerbiak and Shawn Marion are guys who are going out to score. That's not my job on this team right now. But if I needed to, if my coach asked me to go out and score 30, I can get it in one quarter" -- Steve Francis.
Terry Mills - sweet, I hadn't even thought of him. He fits the profile, and the Rockets could definitely afford him. He started most of the games for the Pistons, so he is a certified NBA quality player. Of course, the center position wasn't a strong point for the Pistons by any means. One thing is I wonder if the Pistons would want to let him go since they need spacing as much as the Rox or more with Stackhouse and Hill taking it to the hoop. Still, I think he'd make a good backup who would complement Cato if the Rockets got him. Good detective work, the Cat. As far as spacing goes, you guys probably know better than me. As long as I remember, there have been plenty of bangers who could hit the 15 ft. jumper. As y'all have pointed out, it's a LOT harder to find centers who have the range to hit the three. The only thing that really got me thinking on this topic was that quote by Rudy saying big men who could hit the three REALLY opened the lanes for Rudy. One possible second rounder mentioned on the Lottery board was a 6'11 center named Malisa who hits the three at a better than 40% clip. I don't know if Rudy wants centers who have that range or just power forwards, but I guess there are a couple guys out there if their talents fit the Rox gameplan. ------------------ [This message has been edited by oakdogg (edited May 08, 2000).]
