Breaking News: Bucks trade Glenn Robinson for Kukoc, future pick Terrible trade for Milwaukee. sports.espn.go.com/nba/index Glenn Robinson is finally out of George Karl's doghouse. In fact, Big Dog is out of Milwaukee after the Bucks traded Robinson to Atlanta for Toni Kukoc, Leon Smith and one of the Hawks' first-round picks next season. The Hawks will announce the deal at a 6 p.m. ET news conference.
I wonder why the Bucks did this...You'd think they'd have traded for a big man of some sort since they already have Tim Thomas at the SF.
Wow - I knew they wanted to get rid of Robinson, but for Kukoc? That 1st has got to be a good one, though if it's the Hawks' - they may well make the playoffs this year. A lineup of Terry/Glover/Robinson/SAR/Ratliff with a bench of Dickau, DerMarr Johnson, and Nazr Mohammed is pretty lethal, even if Terry is out of position. The key for Milwaukee will be if Tim Thomas can fill the void; in any case, they are a team of perimeter shooters right now with some slashers.
The Bucks had to do this trade for salary cap purposes. Glen Robinson is a proven 20 ppg scorer who's still in his prime. Kukoc had one of his worst seasons last year and will turn 34 next month... BUT, Kukoc's contract runs out after next season, and both Ray Allen and Glen Robinson have two years left on the deal. The Bucks are thinking that both Robinson and Allen will want max contracts, and they'll take the younger Allen over Robinson...
I guess Karl learnt from Seattle that too many players who need the ball is not such a great thing. Remember the Sonics had Kemp, Payton and K. Gill and were not going anywhere. Only after Gill was traded for Hawkins they made the leap.
Mutually beneficial deal. The Hawks have a playoff shot and the Bucks won't have to pay Big Dawg and they have an extra first rounder to play with. Who is Leon Smith?
After seeing some of the Bucks summer league games, it became apparent that Haislip is the future at the 3 spot. But u gotta believe they coulda done better than a 34-year-old Kukoc... The Rocks shoulda gotten in on this deal!
I believe he is the one the Mavericks selected in the 1st round a few years back. He had a lot of potential, but apparently he is psychologically screwed up. He quit practice because Don Nelson told him to do some running. He almost killed himself by taking too many pills. He thought, at one point, he was a soldier fighting the indians. The stories are endless with him.
He is the MEAT of this deal. The Bucks taking a Flyer on this guy. . . I'm not ready to give up on him yet. I think he might see some minutes this year. Rocket River
the posterboy for going to college... funny how we never hear about him or Korleone Young or any of the other handful of high school athletes that skipped college to go straight to the NBA.
That's what I was thinking, we should have came in on the deal. Then again it's so stupid they probably thought "Milwaukee isn't stupid enough to ok this deal!" Oh well.
The Bucks went within a basket or two of the Finals with all three though... An early contender for dumbest trade of the year. Milwaulkee got nothing. If your shopping an ALL STAR SF you HAVE to get something. Not only that, but they just made an Eastern rival BETTER. On paper, the Hawks should go close to winning the East.
the hawks can make the playoff in the wide open east if: 1. ratliff stays healthy. 2. terry can successfully play the point. the bucks are planning for the future. cap-wise is one thing, but they also made room for thomas at the 3.
it was a dumb trade. Thats the second dumb lop side trade this summer. I guess seattle is next to make a dumb trade.....or it might be us.
I guess you don't count the last 42 games of last season as successful? This is a crazy trade for Atlanta.
Good, Big Dog was the worst of the big three and a ball hog who couldn't score in the clutch. means more Pts for Sam and Ray Allen.
