I to do not in any way think that if Trump is elected democracy will end.
Americans Left and right leaning would never let that happen.

My only fear is if it ever came to that, would we see any of those same protestors waving the Palestinian flags at our universities actually having enough balls to defend this nation against itself.

they should never be needed, but those crowds do not instill fear to people they would be taking up arms against.
You can't demand that water be delivered to the front line like you do in the quad at UT.

You can throw whatever pseudo news report at me saying that Trump wants to end democracy, and who knows he might for arguments sake. But America is and will always be a "Free" country until China buys our rights.

He would be assonated the first public event he attended...

I agree, Joe needs to step aside, the toothpaste is out of the tube and now the Dems have to fix it, but I don't think Joe will, I don't think he sees what we all see. I love the man and he saved us from trump once but the small % who put him over the top will either not vote or they will roll the dice with trump. I am not overly confidant that Harris would take down trump but I am even less confident Joe can do it again...................I hope I am 100% wrong, but internally I have already accepted our fate come Nov. How the gop got to the place where they let trump take over the party will come back to bite them in the ass once trump can get rid of all charges, do some grifting and set his wealthy friends up with a little quid pro quo, he will ghost joe six pack............but its going to take awhile

I know you don't. And I agreed during his first term. But in those 4 years, he's learned how a lot. They have a lot more knowledge and experience now, and they know how to use the courts far better, and whom to pact what court with whom. It isn't just things like Project 2025, it's how they have been able to install loyalists at key state positions - having control of AGs or election officials in key swing states. Having immunity and a very favorable supreme court. Having a Congress that can block any attempt to remove him.

He will be the most powerful unchecked president if not in all American history, certainly in modern history.

The damage he is capable of doing is tremendous. And he will do damage that will be long lasting.

I'll bet anyone $1,000 that we still have the same form of government with a Presidential election in 2028.

I think you should have a bit more faith in American constitutional structures. Contra your claim of his being "unchecked," the system provides plenty of checks--the entire point of "checks and balances."

Constitutional structures are only as resilient as the people behind them. And that is already on shaky ground and his plan is to further ensure that those people are loyalists.

So I think I should do what all my years of experience have taught me vs having blind faith in systems. After all, we live in a world where people have lost faith in science (see climate change and vaccines), and most of all in gov't.

When a group of people are working to actively undermine those checks and balances to the point they are dysfunctional - I would say you should be more concerned at how vulnerable American constitutional structures are at this point. You have a SCOTUS interpreting the constitution in a way that even conservative legal scholars found troublings - and that is the definition of radicalism. Giving a president blind immunity for "official" acts without defining what exactly that is - is incredibly disturbing. Trump will have carte blanche to use the military as he wishes, and to make unilateral decisions. Congress, being of his own party, will not check him. And the courts, having 3 of his appointees and 2 others who are squarely in his corner - is also not likely to check him.

He has already demonstrated the willingness and even active effort to test the boundaries of our system. Instead of learning and appreciating those boundaries, he's worked to undermine them so he can do as he wishes.

The justice department will be his own personal gestapo. The pattern with him, like most wannabe dictators, is to accuse your enemy of the very things you are seeking to do. There is no doubt in my mind that he will go after Pelosi, Biden, Obama and many others as criminals. Such is the history of people of his mindset.

Wow, what an incredible lack of self awareness on display. Have you forgotten that Biden's Justice Department has gone after:

    Trump (4x)
    Giuliani
    Bannon
    Stone
    Navarro
    Manafort
    Meadows
    Shall I continue?

Democrats are always guilty of doing exactly what they accuse Republicans of seeking to do...

Dud with the Nixon tattoo? The audacity of prosecuting such morally upright citizens of this nation is disgusting.

Roger Stone is a saint. Paul Manafort? Wouldn't hurt a fly:D

No one will build fences and have us living under the military rule of Generalisimo Trump.

However - it will be a further erosion of the protections and checks and balances in this country and open up the prospect of a crook or marginal person becoming President based on precedent.

This is all just a continuation of what we have been seeing for over two decades.

I have never been as disappointed in the US political parties as I have been over the last 8 years - and it culminated with what I saw at the last debate. Two overly old men in decline, one that has physically and neurological issues.... the other that is a criminal serial liar ---- on stage arguing over their golf games, ****ing p*rn stars and a degenerate son that is a POS.

I'd be more fearful if he were 10-15 years younger.

SCROTUS will promote a kleptocracy drip by drip for their boat buddies to buy even bigger yachts regardless of whoever sits in office.

Media has been crappy, with incentives that as a whole are working against the healthy public roles of informing, being a watchdog, and so on. But they are diverse, and as long as they remain diverse, I don't see them ever conspiring as a whole. But, due to current incentives, they often generate conspiracy more than expose it.

Staffers are part of politics, and political figures will play team sports first. But, those who still have high morals and ethics do not cross certain boundaries.

No, not military rule, but he came close to declaring martial law last time around, and wouldn't surprise me if he tried again. No one knows what happens in that scenario.

Trump will do what serves his interest over anyone else's. He won't leave the presidency unless it's to one of his children or loyalists. And he will exert a level of control and influence over the country that has not yet been seen. The democracy we've known will be gone. How much or what semblance of it will be questionable. The facade will remain - only so his supporters can say, "See, the liberals were crying for nothing!"

But make no mistake. He will have full control by the end of his term. The only check on him left is death.

This is like showing two weeks of Jeremy Lin on the Knicks and paying him a multi year contract with the rockets only to see bricks, air balls and passes to other teams

Trust your own eyes and ears brah. If you have to rely on the so called experts to tell you Joementia’s brain is like fermented tofu then with all due respect: you’re a functional idiot.
