We will be irrelevant so long as Bev plays 30 minutes a game. I don't see any rationale to NOT to drop his playing time to around 20 minutes/game. It would fit his game style better. It would let him stay fresher and really let him fulfill his pesky role. Perhaps his shots would start falling as well. A fully energized Pat? Cmon. Thats a no-brainer. But playing him at 30 min/game negates that.

Give the leftover minutes to Pablo and Terry. Our team runs very smoothly with Pablo at the helm, even w/ his limitations. That's another qualm--that Bev cannot run the offense, although he doesn't really need to in the starting lineup.

So...why hasn't this happened yet? Why are we STILL relying on Bev for 30 minutes a game? For the love of God, aka Chuck Wagon, can someone PLEASE explain the rationale for playing him 30 MPG? I just do not see it.

FWIW, I am a big Bev fan. I just think he'll help our team more at 20 MPG than 30 MPG.

When is the last time you coached a NBA team?

Apologies, did not realize only former NBA coaches could question minute allocations.

I tend to agree. Bev is like Cory Joseph or Patty Mills. They are effective, but you want them playing 15-20 minutes a game on average.

He's in the wrong role. We're asking him to be a $10 million starter, when in reality he's a $3-4 million backup.

The Rockets playing a backup PG full time starter minutes and expecting starter quality production???

    Naww never seen that before....

    Signed,

    Jeremy Lin
    Rafaer Alston
    Moochie Norris
    Mike James
    Bob Sura
    (old) Mark Jackson
    (old) Rod Strickland
    Matt Maloney
    Bryce Drew
Kenny Smith (even though he's still a Rockets legend)

The Rockets just obviously aren't a Point Guard team and never have been. Looking up the duds this team has had over the years at that position at least Beverley is entertaining as an agitator.

The reason I asked is this : if you have not coached a NBA team before, how do you come up with the 20 minutes of Bev is better than 30 minutes theory?

Is it because he sucked so badly so that you want more Prig and Terry? Then why not just 20 minutes more of Prig and Terry?

Maybe he should work on his floated and shots in the lane
The Shot from the Elbow would not hurt either

Right, I have no concrete basis, other than my own notion common sense. Based on the "eye-test", not only is Bev not good enough to play 30 min a night, but his style of play seems better suited in a role that gives him time to catch his breath...so that his PT is best suited for his pesky, hard-nosed style of play.

Your latter statement does hit on my main point--that he is struggling so much to the point where we need to look at other options, i.e., giving some of his minutes to Prig/Terry.

I did not post this in that thread because this is a slightly different topic. I don't believe Bev is a garbage player. Nor is that the debate. The debate, or topic, is his minute allocation, and whether he is playing too much.

If I recall correctly McHale has gone with Harden, Ariza, Brewer with Harden as the ball handler in the 4th a few times. Wouldn't mind this lineup given additional minutes.

    Life is all about options.

there is no doubt Bev is struggling at offense, some may even argue about his defense is not really that good this year.

But the question is, what other options the Rockets is having now?

If you or anyone would like to argue Prig or Terry are a better defender than Bev, I don't you will be the favor to win the argument.

So it all come down to the offense, early in the season, Terry was indeed knocking down some 3s and he had one or 2 nice game scoring in the last month or so, but overall, other than a 3pt shooter, did anyone really believe he can actually "run" this Rockets offense?

As for Prig, he's getting a little bit of playing time only because he is a vet and McHale will always tend to trust the old guy a bit, but if you really believe he will be the savior for this Rockets team, please remember how did Morey trade for him and why? We dumped a garbage contract of Shved to get a better contract and this player is coming from the worst team of the league while getting very limited playing time there also.

I am all for Bev coming off the bench the way he's contributing this year offensively, but if your option is Prig and Terry, good luck with that.

Trading Canaan has turned out to be a disaster, but then again, Canaan would still be rotting on the bench even if he wasn't traded.

I think we are going to be happy with Bev these upcoming playoffs. The style that makes him effective also makes him injury prone. It is very clear that he has finally learned this and toned it down a bit. After that, he hasn't been able to play the way he wants to and it has impacted his whole game.

During the playoffs, he won't be hesitant anymore. He will be healthy and very active. He will be a pest. He will play playoff basketball.

With that being said, I do think we still need an upgrade. But, he will help these playoffs.
