Like the title says, who do ya'll think are the best and worst GMs in the league. Worst: 1. Zeke 2. Billy King 3. Garry St. Jean (Warriors) Best: 1. Randy Pfund (Heat) 2. Don Nelson 3. RC Buford
Glaring omission: Rod Thorn is one of the best. A few years ago another poster was bashing him as one of the worst, which I found absurd. All he did was take a moribund franchise that had been irrelvant for decades and turn it into perennial contender; he got vince carter for nothing, found Krstc with a low draft pick, turned Griffin into Jefferson...etc.
Technically who is the Mavs GM? Don Nelson? Donnie Nelson? or Cuban? I think Don holds the title but I think all of the decissions are made by Cuban and Donnie. Donnie is the best talent evaluator in the league as far as I am concerned.
On draft day? Third from bottom, right above Chris Mullin and Kevin McHale. The rest of the year? Probably top 5.
I honestly think he is right in the middle of the pack. He's made great moves (TMac, Clyde, Francis-for the most part) and we all know he's had some questionable if not bad moves (Gay being the most recent).
Dawson is pretty low on the GM totem pole. He had that one good year that he aquired McGrady, James, Barry, Sura, and Wesley, but almost everything before and since then has been horrible. The Swift and Anderson signings and the James for Alston pretty much negate the entire season before. Then there was Pippen, Drew, Turkan, Langhi, Collier, the Griffin debacle, Piatkowski, and Roderick Rhodes...Then there was the Barkley trade, which was good or bad, depending on how you look at it. Taking a look at the successful careers that Horry and Cassell have had, I say it was a bad trade for the Rockets. It's just too bad he won't get the chance to be fired if the Gay for Battier deal turns out to go sour...
I liked it when CD picked up Mobley and Dickerson but it was disappointing to see him let go of Lewis because he wasn't ready. This year it's the same thing Gay isn't ready but Battier is.Griffin for the 3 picks turned out to be bad but at least it was a gutsy decision. Right now he has made a conservative move when our stars are coming off injuries and with our lack of speed and athletic ability. I would give him an overall C.
Zeke is in a class by himself...I'd say he should just get a lifetime achievement award for management ineptitude. He actually owns the bragging rights to five of the fifteen worst contracts in the NBA. It takes special talent to suck as badly as Zeke does.
Great! That is who I want running my franchise and ordering the food and the queso for the TC restaurants.... a guy who warrants a C. I remember those kids from school. Some of them were really energetic but didn't have a clue as to how to make a good decision. I guess we now get to see what Moreyball plays out like. It's fabulous! It's exciting! It's Gundier!
Randy Pfund is Johnny come lately, but he is definitely top 5. RC Buford is probably #1 in my book. Nelson #2. I would put Colangelo at #3 though.. and in fact, he outmaneuvered Dallas for Nash which turned out to be a great decision, so he might be #2. Dawson is in the worst 10. He is one of the worst talent evaluators in the league and his cap management is mediocre at best.
Wow what a difference a year and a ring make. People where blasting the heat when they overhauled their team.
ya tell me about it. bout how they wont have chemistry and too many ego players. now it's how riley found the right players to win a championship.
