Or should I say, best calorie efficient way to get protein. Lately, I'm trying to do the whole Mon-Friday workouts with rest on the weekends. I've heard whey protein is good, but I don't know how many calories it is per shake or whatever. I was looking for a source of protein without adding more than a hundred or so calories. Can you eat pure protein, is that possible? lol. -travis
lol you cant eat pure protein, find a cheap deal online, go to bodybuilding.com , price match it and just drink it with milk. Whey Strawberry + milk + frozen strawberries = best tasting shake n one scoop of protein is 110 calories, 8oz of milk is 140 I THINK, so it comes to about 250 calories all together.
most whey protein is around 120 calories per scoop (~30g). that gives you about 23g of protein. add that to a glass of skim milk and you get around 200 calories / 30g of protein. can't do much better than that. why is your calories so limited around your workout time? pre/post workout and breakfast are your most important meals.
Won't grilled chicken or egg whites eaten pre-workout absorb into your body post workout? Couldn't you time that to work? Tuna is what 60cal for like 15g protein? I dunno.
Well, I was mainly trying to isolate the protein aside from meals. Like, breakfast then a workout then a shake... then hours later lunch... etc. Unless I could find a protein-rich meal of some sort. I consume a pretty good amount of calories anyway, but I wouldn't be opposed to 200 calories for 30 g.
can somebody post some links to some old protein threads...i cant search preferably the one which discusses some of the best tasting protein shakes. looking to get back to my workout
In my house I currently have 5 different kinds of protein powder, which I take 5 servings of daily...(before workoutx2, after workoutx2, before bed) Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey (chocolate)- 1 serving has 24g of protein - 120 calories ON Casein (cookies and cream) (take before bed) - 1 serving has 24g of protein - 130 calories Muscle Milk (cake batter)- 1 serving has 32g protein - 300 calories Nature's Best Zero Low Carb Isopure Whey 1 serving has 50g protein for 220 calories (2 scoops) BioChem Sports Vanilla Whey Protein - 1 serving has 20g protein and 100 calories I like to mix it up so that I don't get bored. I have about 25 pounds of protein powder currently in my kitchen...
Is it okay to use whey protein that is past the expiry date? I have an unopened container that is about a year past the expiry date. Do you think it's okay to use?
before and after workouts i combine the protein shakes with south beach frozen meals - especially the single portion pizzas - they have 340 cals and 30g protein a pizza and a shake before/after workout is 60-80g protein and 600-700 calories each... this works perfectly for me.
i do that all the time. one of my protein packages is 1+ years old. because i rotate between them - that always happens. no problems here...
Right on man. That's the one thing I've found (mostly by luck, wasn't looking for protein) with a pretty fair calorie to protein ratio. It's like 380 calories for a pizza with 31 g of protein.
yup. i take a protein shake and a pizza 30 minutes before my lifting regime. i take creatine immediately after i take another protein shake and pizza 30 minutes after my creatine. works fine for me. YMMV though...
you dont need that much protein Before working out, you need alot more complex carbs then protein. You take the protein shake the first thing you wake up and PWO.
lol why would you eat pizza before working out? thats a bad way to get carbs, and you once again you dont really need protein before working out. And what type of pizza do you eat? Home made or what?
their shipping kills any pricematch. try vitacost.com. they have good (if not the best) prices and ground shipping is $4.99 on basically everything
