I was wondering what is the best way to convert some old VHS video?

I have an old computer converter box that I used to use to convert some old videos before into my computer, but that was back in 04'. Dont have the software anymore either just the box.

Is there a better way today to enhance the quality and convert it to .avi or to burn it out on dvd.

I've seen some old 80's video on youtube that seems to be enhanced "480" that looks pretty clear.

    Any suggestion? thanks.

    Maybe VCR/DVD recorder combo?

A pawn shop might have one for less than 50 bucks.

I've been using my old VCR/DVD Recorder to record old hi-8 camcorder tapes and some VHS tapes I had with shows on them onto DVD. After I have them on DVD, I can edit the content. I usually just time the DVD recorder in 10 minute increments depending on how long the VHS or hi-8 tape is, and go to sleep for the night. When I wake up, I just finalize the DVD.

The quality would be much better with some software if you record VHS on your PC, but it's too much hassle to bring the VHS player or connection to the AV Input on my webcam (an old Intel webcam with composite yellow input).
