Who is the best to you and why. Looking into Utilities options TXU is offering the 40 gift card wwwwoooowwwweeeee but how good is the servive How cheap by comparison? Rocket River
great question, rocket river...i've been wondering the same thing lately. reliant is...well...reliant. it's hard to trust the freaking power in my home to just anyone....but i still could be persuaded.
Max, the Reliant energy that receives your check for monthly service is a marketing company for the mother company. All power is brought to our homes or apartments by the same company, so there is no difference in reliability. Deregulation has force competition for marketing electricity to the end user. Choose the lowest price, or choose Green Mountain if you like their energy source. The notion that one electricity marketing company is more "reliable" than another is just a sales pitch.
good point, john. you're exactly right. it just seems funny...i know what to expect from reliant/hl&p all the way around. have you changed service?? who are you using??
Where can I compare prices? Actually. . . . beyond the three I named. . .I don't know of any other companies that are options Rocket River
I signed up with Entergy Solutions a while back. My 1st month with them, I saved about 15% on my bill. Pretty good customer service. Their rate is about 9 cents a KW Hour compared to 11 cents for Reliant. Considering the fact that my house uses about 3000 KW hours a month at the peak of summer, the savings is pretty helpful.
We use Green Mountain. It really isn't any more expensive and they do promote the use of "green" power sources, so it works. Besides, living in a house built in 1930 with no upgrades ever done to the efficiency of the house means no matter where we go for energy, we're still going to pay out the ass during the summer.

I use Gexa: http://www.gexaenergy.com/english/index.html I believe they claim to be the cheapest in Houston. I use them because I get a discount thru my company.
Actually, their source of power comes from the same place that Reliant's, TXU's and everyone else's comes from. Basically, you're just promoting their idea. All of the power comes from the same source.
RR - All of these companies bring the power to us. The power itself all comes from the same source though. It's like a store...all the merchandise comes from the same source but a different company sells it.
Although Water Works on its own is solid, if you get that AND Electric Company, you can charge TEN TIMES whatever they roll on the dice!!!! Oh, in Houston? Crap, I don't know.....carry on.... By the way- I have TXU in the Round Rock area. Don't know what to say- my lights are on as I type this, so I guess it's good. It's a one bedroom apt, and I usually pay around 45-55 bucks a month on electricity.
