i really dislike mainstream music so im always looking for either unknown or not too popular artist or groups. For me, even tho they are getting a lot bigger now, The Spill Canvas is the best music out there. Also, i went to a Joss Stone concert and discovered someone new for me to listen to. Ayo was the opening artist for Joss and she is really good. Born in Germany, fathers Nigerian. Has a great voice, check her out.
If you like African (Mali) music check out: Toumani Diabaté http://www.myspace.com/toumanidiabate He's pretty famous in all parts of Africa. Getting some buzz in the States. He trained with the legendary Ali Farka Touré. (the most famous and influential African musician ever, imo)
and here I was thinking Graphic Artist or some other Art Work Nowadays. . people say ARTIST and they really seem to really mean Musician or Musical Artist Rocket River
by the way. these guys DO have over 142,000 friends on myspace. if that many people like them enough to add them as friends on that one site. im not sure how unknown they are. But.... to each his own. by the way all hail the heartbeat sounds A LOT like alien ant farm at the end. the vocals at least. and i used to like them a lot hung out with them a few times cool guys.
One of my favorites is Rocky Votolato. A Houston native, sings mostly folk-rock songs. http://www.myspace.com/rockyvotolato Probably my favorite of all time is The Aniversary. Basically, the epitome of Indie-Rock. http://www.myspace.com/theanniversary
Does he live the life of a madman? Yes he lives the life of a maaaad maaaad maaaan! I'll go with Rockin' Ichiro and Boogie Woogie Swing Boys, because I can't find anything about them on the internet. I picked up one of their albums for 3 bucks on a whim. Really good late '50s-early '60s rock 'n' roll. With a heavy Japanese accent! Tenhi is an awesome Norwegian folk group that seems to be big in metal circles for some reason.
Joss Stone is definitely NOT unknown, just unknown to you at the time. I recently discovered Wolfmother and have been listening to their CD a lot. Those guys are awesome andshould become big, they deserve to. If you like rap, Mickey Avalon is great.
Plexi. By far my favorite band to never make it big. The had a couple of EP's, but only one major label album called Cheer Up. They broke up shortly after its release. You may have heard the song Forest Ranger back in the late nineties....it got minimal airplay. http://www.myspace.com/plexi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plexi
i never said joss stone was unknown, but the lady that opened up for her, named AYO is here in the states. joss stone i dont consider mainstream either tho... her musics not on the radio and her videos arent on mtv and that crap... but ya i know joss stone is not unknown.... also spill canvas is getting bigger year by year this is true.. when i first started listening to them it wasnt even close to the number of fans they have now.
A blog I read mentioned him the other day due to his new album being released. I listened to some tracks, its pretty good. Listeners of Elliot Smith will like him. Had no idea he was from the area.
