I really didn't want to start another TV thread, but the search function won't work for me for some reason. What's the best time to buy a BIG HDTV, like a 55 or 60 inch? Tinman has brought me to the darkside.....
from what i have seen starting maybe 2 christmas' ago, or for sure this last christmas shopping season. is that "black friday" the day after thanksgiving is really not that big of a deal for tvs. most places have tvs discounted the best possible. so i would say just look for the best tv/deal you can get for the amount of money you want to spend. and from what i know generally its best to order online that will give you the very best price.
Look for prices to go down on good stuff when the next generation comes out. Higher HZ rates are out now, so lower HZ rates are getting cheap. LED's will probably be the standard in a couple of years.
nows the time. sony and samsung both came out with new stuff. latest marketing hype is "Hz"...120hz..blah blah. previous was Contrast Ratio.
Just buy one. The rule is it will always get cheaper or better/cheaper meaning you can get the newer model for cheaper than you got your older model 8 months down the line. In other words you will never be satisfied.
Amen. If you wait 6 months, then you could've waited 6 more months until they release newer and better ones. Get what you need and be done with it.
the darkside is good! well i would say black friday, but the Rockets are on HD TNT this month actually this would be the first time ever in HD in the 2nd round I think if you need a TV that big, plasmas are going for cheap now. 50+ http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=95183 but you can great deals on LCD (52inches) you probably don't care about the 120hz stuff. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3809201&CatId=3651
QFT. Mine doesn't have **** on the new tv's, but I still love my Westinghouse. (recommended by DaDa). I went to BestBuy and checked out the models, then went to NewEgg.com and saved $500, from taxes (no taxes online) and lower price than Bestbuy. 2 days shipping (they flew it to houston and drove to College Station to front door deliver it). That's what I paid for my 42inch. depressing looking at today's prices compared to a few years ago. still love my 42 though.
I paid $3000 for my 42" Hitachi, I think.... of course, that was in 2005. I don't think I want anything bigger than 42-46" in the family room, though. I don't want some monster tv being the focus of the room. That, and my viewing distance for seating varies between 5 and 10 feet, so 42-46" should be enough. It's a wonder how I survive on this archaic non-1080p, under 50", non-120 Hz plasma with no bluray... *sigh*
Actually the best thing to do is go to AVS Forum and look for possible deals. Amazon has good deals, but places like onecall, 6ave, etc have coupon codes and discounts that can be far lower than any other place online. I got a $1000-$1200 receiver for about $700-$750 from 6ave thanks to a 20% off coupon. It's Just Google or go to nextag.com, pricegrabber.com, the AVS forums, etc. and compare prices and coupons. I like avsforum.com simply because you can find reviews, cost comparisons, etc.
depends if there's lots of light in your room, plasma's screens reflect more light. a good plasma to buy if you can find them is the pioneer kuro or elite kuro
Ive seen Samsung LCDs that reflect more than Samsung plasmas in the same year at the same quality range. At this point there are no longer any rules. Just generalizations.
