I know there's a lot of video technology gurus on this board, so I figured this would be a great place to get some advice. I'm looking to buy a "tag along" camcorder as a Christmas present. What's the best camcorder (preferably vertical style) camcorder for around $250. It could be HD, regular, pocket-sized, etc. I just want the video quality to be at least decent for recording mostly outdoors. It's going to be used for taping outdoor sports events, team rallies, or even just bringing it when everyone goes out. I'm not expecting the best image quality for the price ceiling I have, but I'm sure there's a category for what I'm looking for. I just don't know where to start. I hear the Sanyo Xacti series is good, but I'm not sure if the flash version or the HD version is getting the praise.
