I've seen a few posts in the past about SQL on this forum so I am wondering what do the experts here recommend to a novice? I understand the basics and can work my way around MS Access but I rather master MySQL to boost my resume (maybe a few other programming languages later on). Any good books, training sites or suggestions are welcome. PS: are certifications worth getting?
Hands on experience is the best training. I took 2 classes and I learned a little bit but it still didn't make sense until I actually started working with it. When you work with it, come across issues / questions, then figure it out -- thats the best way to learn. I am still learning...using books and the web as reference (mostly web)
I agree with the two posts above. The best training is to actually use SQL in real-world applications.
As others have said, the best way is to get hands on but that may not always be readily available. Here is a decent site to get you some of the basics and intermediate functions you may have missed. http://www.w3schools.com/sql/default.asp
thanks guys, im using access to build something at work and it can be massively improved so will definitely be implementing whatever i learn into this project
I suck at algebra and I could never seem to apply a math solution to a problem, and therefore sql remains a mystery to me.
