I've heard the best Spring Rolls in Houston were at Mai's, but unfortunately their restaurant burned down about a month ago. What are your opinions on the best Spring Rolls in Houston?
Yup. I like them. They put mint and peppers in them, kind of contrasting tastes makes it real yummy. The sauce they give with it is amazing imo
Go to Bellaire and pick a place. Your chances of finding good spring rolls in this area is very very high
I've had pho at several places, and they all taste pretty similar to me once you add the other sauces, but at least Pho Saigon is cheap.
Spring rolls are so easy to make. Let's see: 1. Blanch rice noodle. Or sub shredded lettuce. 2. Grill meat. Seriously, anything will work. 3. Prep veggies. You can make your own picked veggies using a marinade of mirin, fish sauce, lime juice, salt, pepper, chili. 4. Prep sauces. Fish sauce and peanut sauce are so ez, can find a good recipe online. 5. Wrap in a spring roll. 6. Serve with sauces and siracha. I can make like 20 rolls and it'll be under $20 but with the ingredients I like to eat.
The absolute best spring rolls are the grilled beef spring rolls at Pho One. It's located on Westheimer and Wilcrest. Go try them, and then you'll realize that the standard shrimp/pork spring rolls taste like trash compared to them.
I crossed Mia's off the list after getting some shrimp spring rolls that smelled extra fishy and were wet/soaking on the bottom of them.
The first time I got the spring rolls at Huynh (behind the George R Brown Convention Center on St Emanuel), they were unbelievable - the rice paper was perfect and the contents were just as good. Since then, they've been more on par with other places - good but not quite as transcendental. My guess is that the best time to get them is around lunchtime - the rice paper will be a bit fresher then.
