    Hello everyone

This is my first post, and I'm hoping some local sports fans can give me some suggestions on what stations have good sport shows in Houston? I'm not even sure which radio station carries Rockets games. I have to admit that since the Oilers skipped town, and the Rockets hit the skids, I just haven't payed much attention to Houston sports, so I'm hoping someone can bring me up to speed on which talk shows are worth checking out.

The best sports talk in Houston and the only one I know is Sports radio 610. They also have the rockets games.

    Welcome!

Now that the Rockets are on KILT 610 AM this season, they will be the best sports talk for the Rocks. Rich and Charlie in the afternoon are loved by some and hated by others. They are extremely knowlegable about sports (particularly Charlie) but they can be pretty harsh towards the home team. They are good guys who just come from the northeast making them a tad more edgy than your average Texas sports guy.

Lance Zerlein in the mornings knows a ton about hoops and he's always fun to listen to as well.

Ever since 610 got the Rockets/Comets contract, they have done a good job of incorporating them into the talk on a regular basis. That will defintely grow.

By the way, David Dalati is probably the best radio sports news guy out there. He gets good stuff just about all the time.

i would have said 610, but i think the radio is boring. But they do give some good info....man just think of the ratings if we had a 610 live show. That would be awsome.:D  :D

Ok thanks for the suggestions, but if anyone can include the "time" of their favorite show, as well as the station, I'd appreciate it. Does Dan Patrick still do sports? Is there still a 3 Amigos talk show?

    Thanks

My favorite show is Jim Rome. I think he comes on at 11 am but I'm not sure. Dan Patrick's show comes on after Jim Rome

ummm the time? I'm not sure about that. I have satalite and i can scroll to see. But if you have some sort of preview channel, it won't be hard to find. And 610, i'm not sure what time rockets info comes on, but keep it on if you are bored and you might hear something.

hes boring to me i like rich and charlie

610 am is probly the best sports radio in the US i listen to it pretty much every weekday off and on throughout the day

7-11 am is the morning show w/ lance zuerlin and david dalati they talk about all houstons sports (rockets, astros, texans, rarely comets) but are pretty boring and rarely ever funny but they give you the most local info along with the primetime show w/ rich and charlie

11 am-3 pm its the jim rome show with jim rome its a national broadcast from LA so he doesnt talk about the rockets but hes really funny and has a ton of good sports guests

3-5pm its the dan patrick show w/ dan patrick and ron dibble they are also a national broadcast from somewhere east they rarely ever stay on subject of sports and are funny sometimes and they have good sports guests from time to time

5-8pm is the prime time show w/ rich and charlie show (my fav) they talk about all houstons sports and our by far better than the morning show (i like the morning show also) they are funny entertaining and do a pretty good job at keeping on sports subject, like the other guy said they can be pestimistic on houston teams cus they from NY (they cover rockets, astros, and texans rarely rarely comets)

8-10pm is the matt jackson show hes really funny but gets off sports subject alot he covers all houston sports and is also pretty pestimistic

10pm-7am is all horrible national sporting news talk shows

dont listen to 610 am on the weekends cus its horrible sporting news radio the whole day and night

Ok thanks for the info everyone. It looks like 610 pretty much dominates sports radio in Houston right now. BTW here is a nice link I found that list all the local radio stations.

I only wish the 610 people would talk about one sport during a particular hour. They drift from sport topic to sport topic, and it's usually about baseball.

I once loved baseball, but I swore after the strike in '94 that I would never watch another inning of baseball until they played the 1994 World Series or every baseball player in both leagues at that time had retired, whichever comes first.

They would be worth listening to on a regular basis if they would let us know a specific time to talk about the Rockets. Personally, I don't care about the rest.

In Houston Sports 610 has the market down pat... The morning show always has the best commentary.

I'm pretty sure, positive unless it's changed in the last week and a half, that Rome is on till 2 and Patrick on after that till 4, maybe 5.

I listen to 610 most times when I am driving, except for time to time when I get too fed up with all the commercials.

Rich and Charlie aren't too keen on the Rockets IMO. As soon as Francis went down, they quit talking about the Rocks almost completely except to make fun of them for their commercials. They had a commercial talking about how bad the Rock were gonna lose to the Mavs at the end of the year and when the Rockets actually won the game, the guys barely talked about it the next day. They also said this past Friday that they would both trade Cuttino & KT for RLewis  that shows you all you need to know about their knowledge and intrest in the Rockets.

That being said, Matt Jackson's show is pretty good IMHO abd it comes on from 8-10pm after Rich & Charlie. You don't have to beg him to talk about the Rockets b/c he actually likes the Rockets and is pretty knowledgeable about them.

There is also a show on Sunday nights (8-10?) where they have a guy from the Houston Roundball Review and it is an excellent place to get to basketball talk most Sundays.

Moved here from the Bay Area... they had two sports talk stations (KNBR and The Ticket) and trust me, Houston sports fans are lucky to have 610. Most sports talk shows are like lemmings, always following fads (like having "Rome-like" shows). 610 seems to understand that fads pass and most local sports fans like *local* sports talk and info. Occasional "entertainment" is OK, but I prefer straight sports talk, and mostly from the fan level.

Talk here seems to focus on (1) football, (2) baseball, (3) basketball in that order. Football is so featured that before the Texans it focused on college more than the other sports. While the Rockets should get more discussion with Yao and (hopefully) more success but I suspect football will always get more discussion.
