Finn's thread about the Red Sox-Yankees series got me to thinking about the best sports rivalries in all the various games today. There are some that have lasted through the years and there are some newer ones that have developed in the past several years. What are some of the best rivalries from sports such as NCAA, NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, etc. that we have today or what are your favorites?

My favorite right now is the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry. Since I live in Cleveland it always gets really emotional whenever those two teams play each other in football.

I remember my friend almost got jumped outside a Quaker Steak because he was wearing his Wolverines jersey after they had just beat Ohio State

Only one that matters: Alabama vs. Auburn.

MLB - Dodgers/Giants is getting nasty. Nothing tops the Yanks and Sox though.

NBA - I think Indiana/Detroit is an up and coming rivalry. Id say LA/Sactown is the best right now. Houston and SA should surpass that in the next few years IMO.

NFL - Dallas and Washington is the best IMO. BTW, never figured out why they are such bitter rivals???

Boxing - Frazier/Ali (hands down; although it was kind of a one sided rivalry)

    Tennis - Navratalova/Everett

    College Football - Michigan/Ohio State

Most will disagree, not basing it on past history but present time, but when you witness it firsthand -- agreed. Even JA Adande agrees.

Although I've heard worse things about UF from UM students (as in physical threats). Similar for FSU, although I hear at least FSU and UM have respect for each other. These next four years should be fun. :D

Oh, got a question, why in the world was Tom Tolbert wearing an Alabama hat during a segment on SportsCenter yesterday? I wonder if this has anything to do with it(?)

    Best (my opinion only)
College: UNC - Duke. Michigan - OSU if you eliminate basketball
NBA: I'd guess it's Boston - Lakers, but really there aren't that many WOW AWESOME RIVALRY!!!!! things going on in the NBA right now - at least that jump out at me.
NFL: Cowboys - Redskins. Cowboys and Indians
MLB: Giants - Dodgers. Started in two boroughs, followed to the west coast. Piazza-Clemens gets an honorable mention
NHL: Montreal - Boston. History of great serieseses

    Favorite
    College: UNC - Duke.
NBA: YOF - SOF ... seriously can't think of a good rivalry. Great indicator of my apathy toward the sport.
NFL: Green Bay - Chicago. Long standing rivalry but don't think it's the best because it's just not competitive
MLB: Yanks - Red Sox. See above
NHL: Detroit - Chicago. See above above

NBA: Lakers Celtics of the 80s was the best I;ve seen. Now, Lakers/Kings. Our best was with the Jazz in the 90s, and the Bulls/Pistons was good for a while.

MLB: Sox/Yankees, obviously. Giants/Dodgers gets a lot of press, but we should note how many of the 'great' rivalries includes at least one team from a major market...

NFL: Niners/Cowboys of the 90s was the best I've seen. Bears/Packers has some serious history. Cowboys/Redskins are special one day a year.

NHL: Leafs/Canadians is one of the most storied rivalries in sporting history, but has been pretty meaningless of late. Oilers/Flames is probably the most bitter.

NCAA basketball: Duke/UNC, and too many other interstate rivlries to mention.

NCAA football: Army/Navy, obviously, and USC/UCLA and Mich./Ohio St., but for quite some time the ones that have really mattered are Nebraska/Oklahoma and FSU with either Florida or Miami.

    NFL -

Raiders-Broncos are two teams that just hate each other, there have been so many fights between players, fans, even players and fans. I can say that I hate the denver broncos more than pretty much anything else in the world.

Packers-Bears have been fighting it out forever.

Cowboys-Skins seem to be two teams that would just want to beat the **** out of each other.

Dolphins-Bills used to be pretty big back in the Marino-Kelly days.

didnt UT-A&M get voted as the #1 college football rivalry about 2 years ago or so? i think it was by MSNBC or something.

unfortunately those games havent meant too much recently. UT-OU is definitely a pretty heated rivalry as of late, albeit quite lopsided.

it's not a real rivalry anymore... all time yeah maybe. but both teams have to win for it to be a rivalry. the chiefs have won 19 of the last 27. so in a word, they PWND the raiders haha

yo kilgore -- cards v. cubs is a good one.

also, MU vs. KU i'm talkin' mizzou v. kansas
