I was looking at an old thread posted by PhiSlammaJamma and then it dawned it me, that's probably the coolest nickname in sports history. It was perfect, fraternity representing college, high flying which was that team's fortee, and its just catchy.

What are some of your favorites?

If Nick were here he would say "Lights Out Lidge." He copyrighted it.

Astros can't even claim the trademark on that. I think there was a Dolphins team in the 80s that has dibs on that.

As far as player nicknames.. I think Anthony "Booger" McFarland (DT, Tampa Bay) and Tony "Porkchop" Womack (DT, Seattle) are my two favorite.

Those names just SCREAM defensive tackle.

Broad Street Bullies? Philadelphia Flyers of the mid 70's
Round Mound of Rebound, Leaning Tower of Pizza - couldn't stand him, but he's funny and has good nicknames.

Yeah, because Pujols busted a light when he hit that game winning shot in the NLCS. :D

My favorite individual nickname of all time is Dr. J...it just flows so smoothly.

Worst nickname ever is T-Mac...never mind the fact that it's McGrady, but shortening a players name and calling it a nickname is pretty weak. Too bad Eric Floyd already took "sleepy". That would have been a perfect nickname for McGrady

The best team nickname ever is "Murderer's Row"...any nickname that violent has to be cool...

Hockey fans...what was the nickname for those Philadelphia Flyers teams from the mid to late 70's? I think they had a cool, violent nickname, also...
