Now I wonder where Houston is!?!?

    ONLY 21ST!!!

MAN, THAT IS SAD!! DALLAS IS RANKED NUMBER 5!! Here's the full list, but it is a disappointment that Houston is ranked so far down, but I believe it....

The only good thing out of this list is Houston moved up 3 spots from last year, but it still sucks.

Great teams in a city that doesn't show itself as a sports town....

    1. Anaheim-Los Angeles - http://www.sportingnews.com/bestsportscities2003/

    2. New York-Long Island-New Jersey
Go ahead, New Yorkers, make your Jersey jokes, but if not for the Devils and Nets ...

    3. Oakland-San Francisco-San Jose
A Super Bowl team and a World Series team but, alas, no champions.

    4. Philadelphia
Say what you will about Phill fans, but they turn out ... in droves, and the teams weren't so bad this year, either.

    5. Dallas-Fort Worth
News flash: The Metroplex has become a winter sports hub.

    6. Boston
The slide from numero uno was paved by the city's pro teams taking a step backward.

    7. Minneapolis-St. Paul
A strong showing from the Wild offsets the Vikings' belly flop.

    8. Tampa-St. Petersburg
The Bucs were the crown jewel in a surprisingly good year.

    9. Detroit
Just think what Motown could accomplish if its NFL and baseball teams were competitive.

    10. Denver
Boulder gives the city ranking a lift, as the Nuggets continued to wander in the wilderness.

They do this silly survey every year, based on a bunch of strange factors that don't seem to make much sense.

Why should we be higher? No playoff teams last year.

Dallas was ranked the best NBA city or something recently in something I read online. Houston has sucked as a sports town unless there's a winning team.

I love how Anaheim-LA came out #1. Great sports fans out there...showing up during the 3rd inning of a ballgame and leaving after the 7th inning stretch. What a joke!

Hey bastid. I'd rather take some pride in Houston if they were dead friggin' last than bask in anything even remotely postive in this wasteland.

    11 days.

I read this article in my issue of TSN this morning while working out.

It's the dumbest thing I've ever read. They readily admit that the New York / New Jersey area has just as many credentials to take 1st place, but that New York alone would be nothing without Rutherford, N.J. Yet the Anaheim / L.A. market wins even though without the champion Angels, the market would be a lost cause.

And how about only a passing mention to the fact that the area lacks an NFL franchise! And they use the Clippers as a good example for the city's rating!

And since when did a combination of cities equal a city? Why can't we just be Houston / Dallas / San Antonio and win 1st place?

Houston is a good sports it's just there are SO MANY transplants here that they all root for there hometown teams and not Houston's.

Jim Rome was on this last week, talking about how they combined Anaheim and L.A. and how the two towns couldn't be anymore different. What a joke list?

The only thing Dallas has going for sports is this show called the TICKET, its a 24/7/365 radio sports show and the guys on there are really funny sometimes. Other than that, this town is deader than your dead mother when it comes to sports. BOO, this city sucks. Somebody nuke it please.

    totally agreed...makes absolutely no sense...

by the way...ask SoCal resident, Jim Rome, if he thinks LA is a good sports town...he'd laugh at you.

flip that around...remember Dallas in the mid-90s?? i sure do!!! i was up there...and there wasn't a Maverick fan to be found...the team freaking sucked...the fans had no reason to show. i never once...not once!!...saw Mavs gear...unless i actually went to a Mavs game.

truth be told...very few cities support their teams, win or lose. pro sports is ultimately entertainment. asking people to spend $50/ticket to watch a team that never wins is a hard sell.

You just about lost all credibility when you said the TICKET was any good. Dallas sports talk sucks. The only time it's any good is when they go to national broadcasts as opposed to the local garbage with the random shock or sexist comment to attract the Neandertal element.

Quite honestly Dr. Dunk I only listen to the Rant on Saturday mornings; other than that my saying it was good was based upon the fact that a lot of people up here listen to it, its sort of this town's ClutchBBS.
