Going off a VH1 topic, I thought this may be a good one. You're encouraged to post the video of what you feel is the quintessential soft rock song. For those of you who decide to be pompous and say "nothing", I'm going to buy a cold fish and slap you with it (RMTex: I'm looking at you...) I have tons. I'm a soft rock fan. Big time. But I'll start with Barry Manilow's "Weekend in New England." <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/stTuNPuI9Dc"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/stTuNPuI9Dc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
This is probably the "softest" rock I listen to lately. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wwJrl5b5m2o"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wwJrl5b5m2o" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Dude... I know you're young, but "death metal" has never been soft rock. C'mon. There has to be one song you liked in the genre, death head. Pause to think the next time you're biting bats head's off.
Off the top of my head a pair, though I'm not sure either of these were the kind of thing that you were thinking of when you thought of Barry Manilow: <embed src="http://www.gunsofaugust.net/blueeyes.mp3" autostart="false" width="300" height="42" ></embed> Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes ^^^ This was the first song that I ever learned to play on the guitar note-by-note. Even after hearing it 5,000,000 times I still want to pick up my guitar and play along when I hear it. <embed src="http://www.gunsofaugust.net/famousblue.mp3" autostart="false" width="300" height="42" ></embed> Leonard Cohen - Famous Blue Raincoat
death metal? are you serious? That guy's voice is nearly Thom Yorke and they're singing about conquering zelda. I guess if i had to pick a "soft rock" song it would be like "No Rain" by Blind Melon, maybe "Out of my head" by Fastball. maybe thats a little closer.
I just watched John Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane" video on the Tube...to me it's the classic nostalgic/mid-life crisis song for average joes and janes...
Ottomaton is on the right track, although I don't care for either song Here are some more: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4fxm1f0yRWo"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4fxm1f0yRWo" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/b-HXDq_9WvM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/b-HXDq_9WvM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> (BTW married wannabes: notice how happy Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal are in the vid. Both were in their 30's, and single, at the time...)
Nothing wrong with the banjo boy, I like a lot of different stuff, just been into the heavier scene lately. I did listen to Oh Inverted World today though. It helps me relax a bit after I thrash my head off.
how about: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nHC0mX-Er_E"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nHC0mX-Er_E" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Good thread idea FFB. However (as you already disclaimed), you're gonna get a lot of machismo replies (see "size does/doesn't matter" thread) For me I'll take any of the power ballads of Chicago..."you're the inspiration" stands out right now. They are just so cheesy and nostalgia-inducing. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CJI6w7MNWvw"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CJI6w7MNWvw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Anything Belle and Sebastian. I don't think this is an official video though. "Dylan at the movies" <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VMHiqSN3gxs"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VMHiqSN3gxs" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
