I was thinking about grilling some steaks tonight and wanted to know different types of side dishes I could make with my steak. I usually go with baked or mashed potatoes and sometimes corn.
Grilled Zucchini basted with garlic butter and herbs. Loaded Baked Potato (I refuse to call them "bakers" - Only fatasses do that).
When I make a steak at home I usually eat it with a sweet potato. Just throw it in the microwave for a couple minutes, toss on some butter and you are golden.
Anyone know how steakhouses are able to make their asparaugus come out so firm?!? I swear, evertime I make them at home they come out fairly soggy and I typically have to cut off the bottom half because it's so stringy.
As said above, you can use a peeler and peel off the skin off of the middle and bottom, at least thats what they do at the sushi restaurant that i work for. And I think they just blanch their asparagus quick, and then give it an ice bath to shock it to stop the cooking. Maybe a chef and give you a heads up on how its done? That is just my guess, and how i cook other veggies that i want to stay green and firm.
garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus however, my personal favorite is....pork and beans. It drives my wife crazy, I will buy a couple of filets, make asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes then just eat pork and beans with my steak...
