I was thinking about grilling some steaks tonight and wanted to know different types of side dishes I could make with my steak.

I usually go with baked or mashed potatoes and sometimes corn.

    3rd on the asparagus.

I usually enjoy seasoned red potatoes instead of mashed.

Grilled Zucchini basted with garlic butter and herbs.

Loaded Baked Potato (I refuse to call them "bakers" - Only fatasses do that).

When I make a steak at home I usually eat it with a sweet potato. Just throw it in the microwave for a couple minutes, toss on some butter and you are golden.

But it has to be a good recipe. Sadly, I don't have one for you.

Anyone know how steakhouses are able to make their asparaugus come out so firm?!?

I swear, evertime I make them at home they come out fairly soggy and I typically have to cut off the bottom half because it's so stringy.

How are you making it? We tend to steam it and it doesn't come out soggy.

As said above, you can use a peeler and peel off the skin off of the middle and bottom, at least thats what they do at the sushi restaurant that i work for.

And I think they just blanch their asparagus quick, and then give it an ice bath to shock it to stop the cooking. Maybe a chef and give you a heads up on how its done? That is just my guess, and how i cook other veggies that i want to stay green and firm.

    garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus

however, my personal favorite is....pork and beans.

It drives my wife crazy, I will buy a couple of filets, make asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes then just eat pork and beans with my steak...
