Which Rockets coach was the best on offense given the talent on his roster?

I'd say Rudy T. I wasn't a fan before the Yao Ming era but watching the games on video made me choose him as the best offensive coach.

Not asked but best defensive coach?

    JVG.

could be the fans who aren't happy with Rick Adelman's coaching so far.
Also, Yao and Tmac were more focal in the offense under JVG.

    Rudy T, but pre-Barkley and pre-Francis days.

Definitely Rudy. Letting Artest, Yao, and Mac take turns ISOing on the left block every trip down the court while the other 4 players stand motionless on the perimeter ready to jack up a 3 pointer at a moment's notice is exactly the remedy that our stagnant offense needs.

rudy T was the best but he also did have 2 potent slashing guards...JVG had tmac near his prime...RA is a far better offensive coach than JVG in my opinion.

Favorite offense with Rudy T was Yao gets the ball at the low block and feeds a cutting Franchise with a no look over the head pass. Worse Rudy T offense was let Mobley the Cat run the offense

If they decide to double, then someone will be open to receive the pass or cut to the basket.

if it was don chaney, i can see us running pick and rolls all day.

"Cut to the basket"? I don't know what that means. Rudy T sure didn't.

Funny seeing all the youngins posting in this thread. Rudy T as best offensive coach...LOL!

Rudy T is the only guy that made the NBA change their defensive rules. It may not be pretty but Rudy T knew how to get points on the board.

Robert Horry cut to the basket....occassionally.

    ;)

I voted Adelman....I think he is the best offensive coach.....he does need some of the current starters to embrace his system...well...actually, only ONE starter.....ehem...Tmac...I am looking at you.

Perhaps it is because his teams had the tendancy to play out of control too much of the time.

At the time Don Chaney was fired, I can remember reading that then Rockets' owner Charley Thomas wasn't really all that enthralled with him during his "Coach of the Year" season and really wanted to fire him right after that one.

You're crazy! You're asking TMac to run even when he isn't going to get the ball? And you're also asking him to give up the ball instead of holding it for 5 seconds while staring at his defending? How will he ever get his 20 shots a game, then? How will he get his 10 FGA from 19 feet away flat footed and fading away? Don't you know that TMac is a superstar and should be allowed to keep shooting at 37%? He is a volume bricker, ahem, shooter. Get with the program.

    So, hold on.

Is this poll about the best rockets coach on offense while coaching the rockets or just in general? That makes a big difference.

If you would have run this poll last season as the end of the year Adelman would have won hands down.

The team is struggling now, but before and during the 22 game streak the offense looked pretty decent.

JVG coached offense? lol. I'm a huge JVG fan though. Perhaps the Texans should hire JVG to be their defensive coordinator.
