With all these threads lately about the best and the worst, I've remembered many moments when the Rockets needed a 3 to tie or win the game. I'm still undecided between 3 players. Vernon Maxwell: he did it so many times Sam Cassell: I remember 2 instances: the rebound bank shot against Dallas during the 95-96 season, and of course, NBA Finals game against NYK Steve Francis: he did that numerous times last year.
Lets not forget Kenny Smith's game 1 tying 3 against Orlando in the 95 finals. Or Eddie Johnson's "Edloe Street Miracle" against Utah in the 97 WC Finals.
Elie, Smith, Eddie Johnson, Horry... how did I leave all those names out... then again, there's Dream's finishing 3 pointers.. but those usually came after we have a big lead and wanted to throw a dagger at the opponent's hearts
Francis, EDDIE JOHNSON, EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE, and Robert Horry... WORST ROCKETS CLUTCH 3 POINT SHOOTER. Definitely Cuttino Mobley. He can't handle big situations....he always screws up or doesn't think and misses a jacked upped shot.
Do you remember the game (and shot) that put us at 18-1 to start our 1st title season? Miami led most of the way and we ended up down by 3 with 1 or 2 secs left and the ball on the side after a timeout. My friend and I like to beat the traffic so we went ahead and started to walk out. We were on the concourse and decided to watch the last sec or two on one of the TVs. Lo and behold, Max caught the ball right in front of Miami's bench, quickly faked to his right, then turned to the left and launched a desperation 3 while falling out of bounds. Nothing but net!!! My friend and I came running back to our seats, while at the same time, high fiving complete strangers. The Rockets went on to wipe the floor with them in OT. Glen Rice actually missed a free throw in that game that would have iced it (thanks Glen!). Not sure if anyone else remembers that game or not. One of the most fun games I have attended.
I know it wasnt the playoffs but those 3's he hit to force overtime against the lakers in Yao vs Shaq I and in Miami were sick. But I got to give it to Mario Elie and Eddie Johnson cause I dont know when I've ever screamed louder in my life.
This is one poll that's difficult because the Rockets have had so many: 1. Robert Horry 2. Mario Elie 3. Vernon Maxwell 4. Kenny Smith
I remember it too, and I was there as well. It was an absolutely amazing shot that I will always remember.
Maxwell, without a doubt. I remember actually being worried with the Drexler trade because I was afraid Maxwell would leave and then we wouldn't have a "last-second-miracle-three-point-shooting-from-anywhere-in-the-building" specialist.
