For those of us who like rap music, who can rhyme the best? I think KRSOne, Ice Cube, Redman and Jay Z are in there, BUT, in terms of pure flowin, I pick the late Notorious B.I.G. over all of those guys. Big Boy could rhyme and at his peak noone could touch him. Agree? Disagree?
Disagree. Big Pappa sounded like Big Doofus. I never could understand why people liked him. But agree on KRS-ONE. To add to the list : X-Clan : can't remember the name of the guy, but the skinny tall one. Public Enemy : Chuck D Tupac Tribe Called Quest : Q-Tip PM Dawn : damn I wish these guys had put out more stuff. LL Cool J : the old stuff. I like rappers that sound intelligent and have that hard-hitting voice and that actually have something to say rather than something to sell. People like Mystikal (hah) don't qualify. He sounds like he was released from an institution a bit too early.
chuck d. any discussion of the best rhymers must begin and end with his name. other rappers that should be mentioned, in my opinion, include: oratory beanz [from anti-pop consortium] wyclef jean joseph "run" simmons del the funky homosapien mase I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting, but these guys are the ones who first come to mind. chuck d.
C'mon, you gotta add 2PAC to the list. Remeber you said rhymer not MC. Also, I would add Jay-Z, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, and B.I.G.
Rap music used to be my favorite type of music.... I still have Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" and The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Ready to Die". I have to agree with some of the others so far like Chuck D, LL Cool J, and Joseph "Run" Simmons. Although I liked California Love, I was never a big fan of Tupac. Ice Cube is also very good. Others include Biz Markie, Prince Markie Dee of the Fat Boys, Kool Rock Ski of the Fat Boys, Eazy-E, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels (before he lost his voice, heh), and the most obvious..one that I can't believe that no one has said: Snoop No one saying him is as hard to believe as seeing BGM posting this early in the morning! Nuthin' But a "G" Thang is still one of my all-time favorite songs and has to be considered one of the greatest if not the greatest rap song ever, and Snoop is what made that song so great.
I agree with DoD's critique of Biggie. Q-Tip Chuck-D Digable Planets - both MC Solaar - by far the best at language play De La Soul - all 3 "I bring the element H to the 2, so you (O)we me what's coming" On a slightly lower rung Outkast - both Ice-T
- Chuck D for sure... he's got a powerful delivery - I think 2-Pac was pretty good. - Q-Tip and Tribe Called Quest have been a favorite. - I really like Ice-Cube although he hasn't put out anything good recently. - Outkast - I saw the new Ludicrous video last night, that's some good rhymin' and a funny @ss video... - Sugar Hill Gang... I said a hip, hop.... - Del the Funky Homosapien is pretty good on the Gorillaz CD - Blondie's done some rappin' - Rappin' Granny is not bad - Didn't The Chipmunks do a rap album?? rH
First I wasn't gonna post but it is just blaspheme to speak of the top MC's and not mention: 1 Rakim 2 Big Daddy Kane 3 Slick Rick 4 Kool G Rap 5 Jigga 6 Biggy 7 Meth 8 Dmx 9 Cube 10 Nas
I personally like Q-Tip of TCQ (good call, DoD) and Black Thought of The Roots. I also think both members of Black Star, rhyme quite well, Mos Def and Talib Kwelli (nobody else mentioned them). And unlike many other hip hop stars, their lyrics are even good.
Tupac, in my opinion, is one of the lyrical geniuses and best rhymers of our time in the Rap genre. Chuck D - I agree with also. Craig Mac is one of my personal favorites. No one mentioned EZ-E!? No Vanilla Ice? No Shaq?
You guys bring about many good rappers indeed, but has everyone forgotten about The D.O.C.? Remember his first album "Noone can do it better"? Man, what a helluva debut album....then of course the car wreck and his vocal cords gone forever, what irony, such tragedy! Oh yeah, he practically wrote the entire Chronic Album for Dre too! Also, does anyone remember "Snow" and his ONE hit, "Informer" that dub/rap hit? I couldn't understand a damn thing he was saying, but it sure did sound good! He too is gone forever in the one hit wonder "where are they now" world.
Most of todays rap is absolute ****e! All that "Holla, Holla" "Bling, Bling" bullsh*t has got to go. Chuck D was the sh*t What about DJ Quik?- "So heres some bass in your face, m#uthaf#cka, silly sucka, ass clucka" KRS-One "Got myself an uzi and my brother a nine" Craig Mack- "Just like a piece of sizzleane you fit inside my stomach with the eggs and crisp between" Geto Boys- "My mind is playin tricks on me"- enough said there I always thought D-Nice could flow
I had mentioned him. Talk about not mentioning Shaq and Vanilla reminds me that no one has mentioned Allen Iverson!
