R&B is hardly a genre discussed upon these boards so I made this topic to see the board's opinion on who you think is the best today. Artists include: Justin Timberlake Ne-Yo Usher Chris Brown etc...

In terms of quality, I would have to go with Ne-Yo. Usher just isn't what he used to be. The Day 26 album was reallllly good too. This is genre hardly discussed, because it's hardly worth discussing. R.Kelly forever!
Someone please define "R&B" before I go insane. I know what the R and the B stands for, but... what the heck is the "genre"? I pick Justin Timberflake for now.
Probably not as recent as the artists listed are but I still listen to: Brian McKnight Babyface Jodeci Craig David Maxwell Rapheal Saadiq - Tony Toni Tone etc.
In no order: Prince (yes, still...) Alicia Keys Raphael Saadiq B John Legend Mary J. Blidge Basically anyone who can sing who isn't one of those whiny R&B dudes, an afrocentric/inspirational/love yourself preachy singer, or someone who can't really sing so they have 5 minute breaks for dancing in each of their performances.

R&B has been going extra hard lately, me personally that is really all I listen. Some of my fav artists now Boyz II Men trey songz mario joe usher avant day26 taio cruz one chance ne-yo lloyd jagged edge donnie klang j holiday It is hard to pick only 1 artist because alot of them are really talented. Those are just a few of my favs in no particular order
john legend is mediocre at best. I don't even consider him to be r&b anyway, he's more contemporary pop/jazzish. next.
R. Kelly is by far the King of R&B...any track that he lends his voice to is automatically gold. If you are talking about all time best look at the longevity of his career. His music has transcended at least two generations of R&B fans. He was also one of the first to create the bridge between R&B and hip hop. To put it in perspective he was making hits around the same time Chris Brown was born and he still continues to do so. Not to mention that he has a countless number of meaningful and inspirational songs. Someone name me another solo R&B artist with the body of work like R. Kelly's please...
R. Kelly is trash now, he used to be good but all he does now is sexually explicit and unncessary material. Ne-Yo is on top right now, he has the perfect balance that can appeal to all ages and is not overly explicit in his content.
