I'm going with my namesake, Artis Gilmore.

    24,000 point
    16,000 rebounds
averaged 22 and 15 his first 8 years of pro basketball
5 time ABA all star (every season he was in that league)
    6 time NBA all star
#1 all time in NBA history in FG% at .599

John Stockton.. I think he's not in the HOF.

He made everyone on his team better every night. Too bad he's a j*zz.. I hate the j*zz.

Perhaps I should have said "Best player not in the hall of fame who is already eligible"

Wow. Those stats pretty much speak for themselves. Artis deserves to be in the HOF.

Adrian Dantley was an incredibly prolific scorer for 13 of his 15 years.. but not enough other stats or a championship to put him over Gilmore.

Bernard King similar..though he had his share of injuries and didn't eclipse 20k points by a short margin

Its arguable, its also arguable that most of his success came in the ABA and I don't know how the Hall judges that. However, its the "Basketball" Hall of Fame encompassing all levels.

Dr. J's career and Gilmore's career parallel each other almost exactly, each coming into the ABA in 1971, so I don't think the HOF voters can hold Gilmore's ABA career against him. There are plenty of ABA players in the hall of fame.

It's not the "NBA Hall of Fame", it's the "Basketball Hall of Fame". therefore whether a guy played in the ABA shouldn't matter, but it doesn't mean that some of the voters hold that against the ABA'ers.

For awhile there it was by-far-and-away Dominique Wilkins, but the voters finally got their heads out of their asses and put him in.

now, i would have to go with artis gilmore myself.

I believe Michael Jordan will be eligible next year, but Hakeem Olajuwon qualified this year. Dream obviously deserves to be in the Hall.

He played in an era with other great Centers, so he tends to be overlooked. He played nightly against people like Moses Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elvin Hayes, Bob Lanier, and Wes Unseld.

    Rudy T. belongs.

Going back to the ABA, how about Mel Daniels?

A 6' 9" center, played for the University of New Mexico Lobo basketball team from 1964-67. He was the #1 draft pick in 1967 of the Cincinnati Royals of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was also drafted by the Minnesota Muskies of the American Basketball Association (ABA). He chose to play in the fledgling ABA, and became one of its all-time greatest players.

Daniels was the ABA Rookie of the Year for the 1967-68 season before being traded to the Indiana Pacers, then of the ABA and now in the NBA. Daniels was the ABA Most Valuable Player in both 1969 and 1971 and led the Pacers to three ABA championships. Daniels played in seven ABA All-Star Games, and was named the ABA All-Star Game MVP in 1971. Daniels led the ABA in rebounding average in three different seasons, and is the ABA's all-time leader in total rebounds. Daniels played briefly for the NBA's New York Knicks in the 1976-77 season.

Daniels and Gilmore are, I think, the only bball players to win a professional league MVP and not be in the Hall.

Also, Spencer Haywood? Career 19 and 9.

Jack Sikma, Jeff Hornacek, Larry Nance, Mark Price, Buck Williams, Reggie Theus, George McGinnis, Paul Silas, Chet Walker, Fat Lever, Alvin Robertson, Tom Chambers?

Yeah, the thread title was edited only a whole three hours before your dumbass Jordan comment...

Come to think of it, Shaq, Garnett, Iverson, and Duncan aren't in the Hall of Fame, either...what a travesty!
