Who has the best meat in Houston? I personally think it's Kroger. I don't go to butcher shops and as a result, I don't know what I'm missing. Places I won't buy meat from are Fiesta and Food Town. Thoughts?
if you are talking grocery stores, whole foods is pretty good. its really not that much more than a regular grocery store, and its much better quality. they have in house butchering, plus they do not use animals that were given growth hormones or antibiotics and they do not allow animal by-products in the feed. plus, they just have a better selection than a randals or heb. after reading the book 'fast food nation' (just saw the movie recently too, which was quite good) i stopped eating fast food and buying meat from heb. it was quite an eye opener! i used to work at whole foods and i remember hearing about the strict standards they have so i did some further research on it and now it is the only place i buy meat.
Michael: Guys - meat it’s what’s for dinner. Who wants some man meat? Dwight: I want some man meat! Jim: Dwight wants your man meat. Michael: Well then my man meat he shall have. Season 3 is out on DVD.
Whole Foods if you are going to a grocery store Pete's Fine Meats on Richmond if you want to go to a butcher I don't know of any other good butchers, but I am sure there are tons of them
Beldens @ Chimney Rock & South Braeswood. Best supermarket meat in town. You'll pay an arm and a leg at Central Market, but you'll only pay an arm and a foot at Beldens. I used to think Rice Epicurean had good meat but I think they've dipped a bit in quality.
Central Market and Whole Foods if you can afford to pay $35 for buffalo filet. I get it occasionally from here if I am just making something for wife and me. If a dozen of my friends are coming over, then there is this ghetto Indian meat store in Clear Lake that I get tenderloin from for $5 a lb. Not bad, as it's tenderloin, but you get what you pay for.
I used to get these coupons from Central Market.....spend $25 bucks and get 2 lbs of chicken free....or spend $20 bucks and get 25 jumbo shrimp free. I used to love that!! I'd spend the $20 or $25 on a decent bottle of wine, and grab my free meat and go home and cook!
I like the thread subject. Anybody have any suggestions for Austin butcher shops? I've never even been into a butcher shop, it's always been who has the best sale on steaks out of the grocery stores. Randalls has been my favorite here in Austin.
Sam's has good whole tenderloin and t-bones. Get the whole tenderloin and cut it into steaks. I do that for grill parties. Mix in some portabello mushroom and sauteed onions and peppers, and slice the steak after grilling, and you can make it go farther. You can also fine-tune the cooking on the sliced beef tenderloin. Guy's Meat Market on OST is pretty good, too.
There's is this mexican place next to the USP on Westpark/Gessner. I always buy my meat there for bbq's and such. A little pricey but they already have it all nice and seasoned, all you need to do is grill or put it in the oven.
freshest meat Viet Hoa Beachnut/Bltway 8 Hong Kong Market - Bellaire / Boone Most of the time you can see them cut off the meat from the body and package that stuff in front of your eyes.. Also the seafood section is the best in town. Also Pete's fine meats on Richmond .. I haven't bought meats from their but thye look fresh.. I usually go there to get a Cheesburger ( BEST IN TOWN!!!! )
