    Hey guys,

have set up a home network and am looking for some games to play with friends on the pcs I have. We tend to like RTS but are open to suggestions. Some older games would be cool as well (but not limited to) as one of my machines is quite slow. The other two are cool though so they can take the strain of newer games. Right now we are still playing AOE II but I feel that's a bit old now!

I don't know if you're into RPG's, but what little life I had has been lost to World of Warcraft. It's an MMORPG... something I swore (like XM) I'd never pay for. Ugh. :(

Counter-strike :D Warcraft 3, Unreal tournament 2004, if you like AOE then just get age of mythologies the first one or even the expansion ( the titans), Starcraft Brood Wars,

If you like the AOE series, maybe you can wait for AOE III coming out later this year. Here's some pics from ign:

That game probably wouldn't run so well on the older one though.

To be honest, I tend not to play multiplayer games, so you may want to take what I suggest with a grain of salt.

The games mentioned so far all sound good though. You may also want to try Battlefield 1942 and the expansions if you've yet to play it. In fact, the sequel for that game is coming out pretty soon as well, IIRC.

As for RTS, I haven't played too many lately. I heard good things about Rome: Total War. There was this one pretty uniqe game called Perimeter that also some good reviews. Plus, there is that RPG/RTS LOTR game. I think it was called Battle for Middle Earth. I believe all these games were pretty good. I'm not sure how good their multiplayer options are though, or if they even offer it (I assume so).

wow those are some amazing graphics. THanks for the headsup. Yeah the games i listed i took into consideration that he only has a smaller number of people playing so its more flexible than say battlefield which has large maps and would get boring because there would be alot of "walking" to do.

Dude, I am so excited about AOE III.

This game looks like the best RTS game ever made! PC Gamer named it just that. It looks so damn good.

I've read that this is the best MMORPG out there. Is it really that good? I've also read that it's more action oriented than role-playing oriented though.

Good point. I don't even think I took that into consideration. I just thought of PC multiplayer games and was wondering why BF hadn't been mentioned already.

Well, a game as good as AOE III deserves to have 2 posts about about it.:)

The grapics are great for an RTS. I remember when one of the 1st pics were shown from the game and some people didn't believe it was an in-game shot. Of course, now those people are eating crow.:p

Well, yes, it's action and RPG oriented, but I think there's a setting you can play it like an RPG (haven't tried it). As for the best MMORPG out there, most people I talk to say this or Final Fantasy (whatever the latest is) is their favorite.

If you're not into the RPG/questing type games, you'll hate it. :)

Anyone tried Red Alert 2 or Age of Mythology? Are those any good?

AoM is a very nice game, I liked it. it is fun if you like Mythology. but as a strategy game there are much better games, like Rome: total war.

    i haven't played red alert 2 yet.

Is Rome: Total War good for multiplayer?

There's a red alert 2? Me and a couple buddies used to play the original (and C&C) a long time ago. Man that was a fun game - tesla coils, tanya, battleships and subs... one of the cool things was that the game came with 2 discs, one for you and one to give your friend. Maybe I'll pick the new one up.

If you go into fairly large battles, make sure your PC has enough horsepower to handle it.

I'm not a big fan of first person fragfests, but Unreal Tournament was a fun game although I don't play it much anymore.
